Hello to all, long time lurker here and just joining the flock. A little background as a turkey hunter,I didn't grow up so. Deer, waterfowl but hadn't been introduced to it. It was my youngest son who started up both and we learned together. I took him on a deer hunt ,as a little fella, and he was much more interested in the turkeys we were seeing than deer. Said he liked the way they walked, bobing their heads back and forth. I said we'd give it a go then. We had a few seasons of steep learning curves then started to kill turkeys. This was maybe 8 or so years ago and are now looking to start on our turkey slams, a natural progression I hear, lol. Any advice on that road would be very appreciated.

First piece of advice is to stop now, turn around and never speak of this again. Once you start down this path, forever will it consume your destiny….
Still here? Ok, but I warned you…
You are already talking about the whole “slam” craze and if it were me I would back off on that. Turkey hunters are a different breed…a better breed. I bet 90% of the hunters out there that you will meet are way more into the experience than the kill. For me and for most, pulling the trigger is very anti-climactic. The build up to that moment is what needs to drive you, not the kill. The other 10%, those in it just for the kill, which I guess is fine, but I would never share a tree with them before sun rise.
Before you get all “slam” crazy, I would suggest grabbing a loaf of bread, some PB and J and head out with the goal of seeing/doing something different. Having an experience you normally would not have. Oh and if you kill a turkey, that would be kinda cool too. Lol!
You can PM me with any specific questions.
Good luck, have fun and enjoy the ride!!!
