More Yildiz O/U testing
Did some more bottom barrel testing today with the new Trulock .591 choke with some lead loads, a pheasant load, and a tss load
What y’all think? I’ll keep trying different lead loads, but the TSS load looks great at 22yds. I’m not sure what I like better with the tss at 22 yds

At 22 yards it isn’t going to matter. Outcome is going to be the same. I’d probably roll with the Trulock 591

For your "open choked" barrel and shots under 30 yards, try a load of Winchester Sporting Clays, 20 gauge ,2 3/4", 7/8 oz., 7 1/2 shot at 1,300 fps. Plenty of pellets and energy w/ a great 20" pattern out of a .590 choke tube.

I’ll give it a whirl. I tried some #5 Remington game loads. Wasn’t impressive at all.

Yeah I didn’t have any backing, but most of the pattern is on the paper.

Re: More Yildiz O/U testing
I tried a couple Remington Shurshot heavy dove loads today and the 7.5 patterned well
1oz, 2 3/4”, #6s and #7.5.
I shot them off hand at 25 yards
Just not sure if it’s safe to shoot a dove load at 30 yards and less. The 6s weren’t too bad either.

Have no fear about shooting a dove load inside 30 yds. A heavy trap or sporting clays load would be even better, as it will contain higher quality shot. As long as you have at least 100 in 10" you will have a dead turkey every time.

Well that’s reassuring. The joy with the O/U is the TSS will be in the top.Spuriosity wrote: ↑August 1st, 2022, 7:12 am Have no fear about shooting a dove load inside 30 yds. Re: More Yildiz O/U testing
Probably only difference is the pheasant loads are nickel plated which helps improve effective distance slightlyJordan121787 wrote:Well that’s reassuring. A friend is raving about the new Winchester Western, high antimony, 8%, Diamond Grade 20 gauge, 2 3/4", 1 oz., 1250 fps shot shells. The harder shot exhibits very little deformation even when choked down and is his "new" shell for his side by side open barrel which produces a 10" core w/ an even dense 20" at ranges from 10-35 yards.

Re: More Yildiz O/U testing
Yes, those should be the bomb. Nickel plating can be helpful but is often a marketing gimmick that allows the seller to charge a high price for the shot. Nickle plated pellets are only as good as the lead pellet underneath the plating. Antimony content is the major factor in how well a pellet resists deformation. Nickel plating on a high antimony, extremely round and polished lead pellet can indeed help, but a high antimony lead pellet like those contained in the Diamond Grade Winchesters will outpattern a low antimony Ni-plated pellet every time.decoykrvr wrote: ↑August 1st, 2022, 5:47 pm A friend is raving about the new Winchester Western, high antimony, 8%, Diamond Grade 20 gauge, 2 3/4", 1 oz., 1250 fps shot shells. Re: More Yildiz O/U testing
Way back in the day I bought a box of 3” golden turkey Fiocchi. Had worse recoil than the federal or Winchester lead 3.5” turkey loads. I might have shot 2 shells from that box and tossed the rest. Crazy

Definitely less recoil than my tss hand loads using mp-300Hoobilly wrote:Way back in the day I bought a box of 3” golden turkey Fiocchi. Had worse recoil than the federal or Winchester lead 3.5” turkey loads. I might have shot 2 shells from that box and tossed the rest. Crazy
I been using the golden pheasant for awhile on my “close” barrel but it’s damn near impossible to find them
