Original Marlin Model 39A

Post by jsh909 »

I have a 60's Marlin Model 39A .22 LR in really good shape. I was wondering if anyone can give me a value of the gun? GunBroker, etc... seem all over the place as far as price goes. A local shop has a 870 Wing Master in 16 gauge that just came in and would like an approximate value on my gun before we start bartering.

Your rifle I'm sure you know is a JM stamped rifle, which have been in demand for a while and even more so with the craziness that has been the last couple of years.
This is making your rifle worth more than what book value is going to say.

check out Guns International for more realistic prices.
Gun broker is still a good option, there is always a chance of people fighting it out and driving the price up.

just go with someone reputable and ask for the GUnbroker ID# on some current guns they have listed to check out their pics. You want someone to do good pics of your rifle.

Thanks guys. I already have an interested party. I am just trying to get an idea of what a reasonable asking price would be.

You are correct it is a JM stamped rifle.

The JM stamp means that the firearm was made by Marlin and not under the company that bought them out. Some are referring to the new marlins as remlins. The JM stamp would be on the barrel, you will not see it on the new marlins.

it will be on the left side of the barrel where the barrel goes into the receiver,

it's a stamping which is not always a real defined "JM" depending on how hard they hit the metal punch that day

I haven't kept up with gun broker lately, not long ago nice cond. JM 39A's were north of 1000.00
I wouldn't part with one in nice shape for less than 800.00, if at all.

I just glanced at mine and didn’t see JM. What year did this take place? My Dad bought this one in the late 40’s. I just looked again and mine does have the JM on the other side of the barrel from where I was looking.

JM stamped on other side are still org. marlins, just a classic case of drinking on the job.

Not sure how far back it goes, it looks like the 40's was hit or miss with it showing up more regular in the 50's

Be careful! 39 prices have been going up up up lately. Its probably worth a lot more than any Remington shotgun I can think of! OR it would be to me.

God Bless, Louis
