Midland Backpacker 20ga .575 choke

Post by bwhana »

Apex 3" 9, Trulock .575 non-ported, lasered 40 yd, no wind, 80 degrees full sun, cleaned bore between all shots. I did not do a full paper count, only the 10 ring on the pic attached. I was sighting it in with a new AT-3 red dot and this was the last shot I took with it. Very interesting that it shot a much hotter core than the Franchi with the same load and choke, but the Midland is a 20" barrel vs 26".Image

Is that a hammerless gun?

That is an interesting lil gun. If it were closer to 3lbs I would grab one, still waiting for a 3lb 20ga!

It is hammerless and folds almost completely in half, and is based on an old Beretta design from what I read. I only paid $100 for it as a truck gun, then decided to have it drilled and tapped for a mount. It is a dream to carry, but comes at a cost! I would never let a kid shoot it as it is the hardest recoil gun I own, even with a Limbsaver pad (way worse than magnum rifles). This is the bruise it caused from knocking the back corner of the unweighted lead sled into my collarbone Saturday! I can shoot my Franchi hundreds of times on it and not get that.Image

I’ve got a single shot FIE 20 that will jar your teeth at pattern board w TSS loads but never notice it shooting at game.

That being said, I would rather have a little bit of weight to it. I’m shooting a 410 that’s almost 5 lbs, wouldn’t want a 3 lb 20. Brutal.
