Now that’s it’s offseason….

Post by Prospector »

Well, it’s over here in the ‘Sip- so thoughts (kinda) turn other ways. When it’s off for you, What’s your plans? Besides the obvious, I’ve got three things bouncing around currently. The first is this Thread- and another, maybe later- to spark conversation from anybody who’s grieving it’s over😥.
So, I’ll go first- #1 is to get me some dog proof traps and go to work on some raccoons. I long ago practiced a shoot on site rule but need to really up my game. I have a trapper in our area who reports already multiple’yotes and ‘cats so I’m gonna help where I can. I live only 20 mins from the farthest reaches of our leased land so I can make several trips a week to run em.
#2- We help our heat pump in the winter with a wood stove in our home. Now Mississippi may not be known as having cold winters but our humidity is always high so cool temps with hi humidity equal cold and wet. I’m not trying to compete here by no means but I have family in Colorado that says it feels at least 10degrees colder bc of the wet…. So, i cut wood. Got an opportunity due to storms to go and cut, split, load, unload and stack oak today. If the pic loads that’s it to the left. I used to help my grandad in VA and I love a wood fire- so does my wife. In our opinion, nothing warms like seasoned oak and our new wood stove was awesome this last February. 40% reduction in our bill from last February- and we were burning in an open FP then!
So, long post, no turkey stories but ask me in a few weeks how the trapping is going. Hope you enjoyed just a peek into my plans ( and mundane existence). If you are still hunting- good luck- revive this thread when you face the post season doldrums….

Bring your green camo, Charlie.
The snow should be gone by then!

Still on here except I’m tagged out. Fishing and some honey dos are keeping me as busy as I want to be. I do need to get some firewood cut and split before it gets real hot here. It should be seasoned about right for the first cold snap this fall.

The thing about making firewood. It heats you about a dozen times. Then you burn it!!

I was born in Iron Mountain. Got tons of relatives up there. Most are across the river in Wisconsin. I've never hunted turkeys in May up there. Always hunted the first week of the season in the U.P. Always did great.

I've got until the 31st, minus the week in IL for a wedding. Afterwards I'll start getting serious about yard clean up and possibly cutting some trees down that need to go. I'll get help for the trees. I've always got some sort of home project that needs wrapped up too. I like leaving them at 90% that way I've always got something on the list. :)

My wife and I will do some camping in a small camper that we bought last year, so we'll hopefully have some time to just kick back, hike, kayak, and maybe fish.

There won't be much of that before September rolls around and things get serious again. :)
