Need help with roll crimper for 410

Post by icehouse1 »

Can someone tell me what is the best roll crimper for 410? I have the BPI and it works, but the crimps look terrible, shoot good, but look terrible!

Send me a link to the best one and that’s where I will look! I’ve looked at the GAEP, but there is to many different options. I get confused!

Thanks in advance.

BPI always makes ugly crimps.

I have the gaep and a Precission Reloading tool and the best crimps come if I use the gaep first and then hit them again with the PR. Little time consuming but turns out the best that way. Neither one by itself looks as good.

Can you give me specifics as to what crimps you are using? Links to purchase would be awesome!

Nick Ross roll crimper is the easiest one to use and produces real nice crimps. Gaep is good also but for reloading hulls the Gaep crimps a real tight fold over that makes reloading a hull a pain.

If you can find one a Lyman makes the best I’ve tried. Another option would be an antique roll crimp tool

I second the recommendatio from the reloader's network. A buddy uses one for 10 gauge and it makes a great crimp. It's a 4 pin head. I don't know about the .410 but I've seen the one my buddy has and its well made and solid. I second the use of a vintage hand cranker. Only new ones I've had were from siarm, but hard to get without European connections. Gil

I loaded up 3 for tomorrow checking zero and first day in the woods. Note the crimper. It is clamped to the end of a board. With my knee pressed against the board pushing it into the coffee table, with my left hand clamping the board and the rto's lever to raise the shell against the crimper, I hand cranked with the right hand with the results depicted. This is why Doc, me and others prefer the vintage rto's. No electric drill or drill press required to make great crimps. Note sleeping bird dog, my 8 year old Brittany, asleep on the couch. Gil

Love’em! You done good. Unfortunately, hen’s teeth are like oak leaves on the ground in fall compared to an antique .410 rto tool. I’m glad I got one-such pretty crimps!
