How to get more turkeys in the spring

Kill the things that kill them!! Trapping predators is the most effective way to get rid of the problem. I am on a farm now that has been coyote hunted on and off for the past year. They killed 3 coyotes. I have caught 4 coyotes and a fox in the last 3 days.

Also very important to get rid of the coons/possums/skunks that raid their nests. I target my February trapping on these species

Get out there this winter and see the difference it makes after a couple seasons. Turkeys have a seemingly endless list of predators, and if you can significantly put a dent in this list you will see a difference. Pair this with habitat improvements and enjoy the fruits for years to come.

Excellent job on the trap line we caught 9 cats in one week out of a 40ac field edge. Coons by the truckbed full. Coyotes just call them in best night was 8.

Turkeys have so many predators and i don’t know about your area but here in western New York the amount of hawks and other birds of prey have exploded over the years

Yep, the aerial attacks are about the only thing I can't stop from happening around here. I've got to leave it to the turkeys to be smart enough to fend for themselves on that one

I've heard 5 different packs of yotes this weekend but not a one of them is remotely close to turkey country. I'm still hoping to kill some of them in December or January.

The fur market is non existent thanks to the Russia/Ukraine deal, Biden's poor dealings with China, the mass liberalization of Europe etc etc

Luckily I can sell things on the taxidermy market. The black coyote brought some good money and the gray foxes do well

This is awesome! Thankyou. I too have taken up varmint trapping /eradication to try and help turkeys. As I’ve said before, a hunter should be required to do this to receive a full complement of tags. I was surprised at the # of raccoons that I caught- no way that it doesn’t negatively affect the hatch!

Yep, the amount of raccoons and skunks are surprising to say the least. I trapped coons on a creek bottom farm that we turkey hunt and caught 30 in 3 days out of 16 traps. They were thick in there. I agree that it's a huge help to the turkeys to get those nest raiders out of there
