Which non-big name TSS to try
I tried out some 12 gauge 3" Federal (#7 & #9 shot) TSS I got in a trade that I do not think had the older as has been reported as problematic w/tss flight control wads as it didn't advertised on their boxes as having them.
I tried out IRC four or five different choke constrictions from .660 to above .680 out of my 870 ESM and a two different chokes from my Benelli Supernova one a Benelli factory Xfull and one Carlson's WLBXR choke of .665"
None of the shots from either gun produced a pattern at 40 yards as good as let alone better than my WLBXR's. This is not to any degree intended to be an insult, criticism or knock against Federal or TSS in general just simply nothing more than what were my results. While I am not an expert, I do feel comfortable in saying I am experienced enough in how to properly pattern a turkey gun and the poor showing by the Federal TSS was not a result in anything I may have done. Could it have been due to not using a choke with the correct constriction, absolutely, I just don't have an answer as to the cause of the Federal TSS's poor performance. And yes did use targets large enough to catch 90%+ of the pattern.
After turkey season is over would like to try two possibly three different small company TSS shell producers to see if they will work in my guns better than the Federals did. Due to the very considerable cost of TSS shells I am quite limited in how many shells I can buy.
So I have narrowed it down to the fallowing to consider for trying and would like to further narrow it down to two or if possible a single shell company.
Foxtrot TSS
Nitro TSS
Burgess Creek TSS
For those far more experienced with TSS turkey shells than I, would you please give me your opinions if I my above companies of choice are my best bet or are there other TSS shell makers I should consider and please add why you think so.
Once I make my choice I will call the shell makers for their recommendation on which choke they think will give me my best results.
Thanks,
Art.

Foxtrot, and no one can tell you what choke your gun will like, only way is to try different ones with the shell you decide to buy, as you have found federal is not a great shell.

I would recommend the Foxtrot Tennessee Twister, 2-3/4", 2 ounces of #9's

(Me whispering in your ear)
Besides being the best on the planet, FoxTrot Ammo is owned by Brice. The owner of this great forum. I just ordered a butt-load of 12 and 20 ga FoxTrot, yesterday.
Trust me. FoxTrot IS the TSS ammo that you want.

May I assume you're not here to inquire about the alcohol or the tobacco?

I’ve shot browning and federal TSS and I can do better with Winchester longbeards.
BUY foxtrot ammo and be done.

Re: Which non-big name TSS to try
As stated above about the gun and choke combination is unfortunately a learning curve for the specific gun and choke. As for TSS and small companies, I won't whisper in your ear but I will feel your hair and rub your back. FoxTrot Ammo is Family owned, Family operated, right here in America and proudly produced in the Heartland. We only shoot .410 TSS currently, I can't even begin to think about a simple 1 1/2 or 1 3/4oz of 9s would do at 40 yds.

Re: Which non-big name TSS to try
As I have been reloading 90# of all my rifle and HG ammo for over 30 years now I would dearly love to make my own TSS, but after looking everywhere I could find there are simply no no new 12ga hulls available anywhere so I will give Foxtrot a try for now.Eagle-Dawgs wrote: ↑April 26th, 2022, 5:12 pm for my 410 shells I use foxtrot. for my 12 and 20 I roll my own !!!!

They are there as of right now. Not all hull colors are available, but clear are at this moment.

Re: Which non-big name TSS to try
Only reason Foxtrot doesn't "qualify" as a "big name" is because no big names are being paid to promote it....truth is Foxtrot is as good OR BERTER than ANY "big name" ammo....THE END.
