Help choosing a new vest
Help choosing a new vest
I'm looking for a new vest. I hunt hard!!! I abuse my vest and clothes.
I crawl and sneak a lot so my new vest must be tough and light.
I need to be able carry a gobbler without it breaking too.
I'm retiring my Bob Dixon. Figured out its worth a little something.
1. Tenzing TV14
2. Under Armour Fast Trax
3. Beard Buster Slingshot
4. Vest a Blind
What would you choose and Why?

Ol tom, because it's built with a turkey hunter in mind.

Ol'Tom is a NO GO.
Owned one for less than a week. Torn to pieces.

Re: Help choosing a new vest
I would choose....to not retire my Dixon. I don't care what people will pay for one, I won't ever stop hunting mine. If it falls apart....it falls apart. I don't have plans of ever selling, so I might as well enjoy it.

Re: Help choosing a new vest
If it were me, I would lean towards the Tenzing TV14. It seems like it has the most pockets and probably the most comfortable. I'm all about looks too and it's the coolest looking. I love the idea about the vest a blind, but nothing is as easy as they make it out to be on TV. I would put the UA vest last. It's ugly as hell and looks like it would be hot. I am a huge UA fan and this saddens me to say, but oh well. I like the beardbuster because of the one shoulder method, but if you're crawling around, this may easily come off your shoulder. The Tenzing gives you two should straps for more security.
Have you thought about going to a fanny pack instead of a vest?
Good luck,
Kevin

Re: Help choosing a new vest
Of the 4 you have listed I'd go with the ten zig vest 1st. Looks like a good design and the back rest feature will be useful. The under armour vest looks like a turtle shell!! Think they should stick to clothes and leave turkey vests alone. The vestablind from Quaker boy also looks like a decent vest. But to me anything that looks gimmicky usually is. The blind part seems cool and it should work but I'm skeptical. I could be wrong and it works perfectly but I'd try it out real good 1st.
I've got about 5-6 different vests. I don't own an ol Tom because I have too many as it is. But if I were gonna buy another one I think it'll be an ol Tom. Designed by turkey hunters and with turkey hunters in mind.

Pass the biscuits!!
Re: Help choosing a new vest
I bought an Ol'Tom first year they came out.
Perhaps they are made better now.
Tenzing makes 2 models. One with aluminum back supports(7#)!!!
The other is much lighter weight at 2.25#

Re: Help choosing a new vest
How much stuff you carry?
Re: Help choosing a new vest
I carry less every year. Slate, box, gobble call, crow call,
Mouth calls, shells, small snips/saw, wet wipes(I like to stay fresh)!
Extra gloves and head net, water, snack, jacket
I'm leAning towards Tenzing T14. I sure like the vests blind idea tho

Just looked at the Knight products Vest. Very
Cool but not sure about the back rest. Doesn't
Appear to have good padding? Anyone have one?

Re: Help choosing a new vest
I had the Beard Buster Slingshot and did not like it at all.
Im left handed and everything was wrong about this vest for me .
Take a look at the Primos Gobbler Vest, enough pockets for everything and a pretty good seat.
Plus you wont have to spend a fourtune for it.

I was given an Under Armour Fast Track vest last year and retired my Ol Tom. The Fast Track is light and breathes very well. I like being about to move pockets around or add more if need be. It held up very well in its first year.

Looked at one very closely at the convention last year. Its a good vest...seems like it was kinda expensive if I remember correctly.

Re: Help choosing a new vest
Not ones that you mentioned but... I have a Treklite Super Elite III that is a pretty decent vest. Lots of pockets and a good size cushion for those long sits. I also have an older HS Strut that I sometimes use getting closer to the end of the season and hotter days. Its a cooler vest to wear as it only has shoulder straps and breathes more.
The other nice thing about considering a back up vest is you can have one set up for rainy day gear.

I’ve tried a bunch but seem to go back to either my Nomad or Ol Tom
