12 ga. 3.5" #7 Hevi

Post by Hobbes_mobile »

I picked up some 3.5" Hevi #7s last year from someone here for backup considering how difficult finding ammo or loading components has become. I've got two different sets of father and son pairs at different times flying out this year from back home. They'll be using my guns so I wanted to make sure the Hevi will perform for them if necessary.

I think we checked it through my old 870 Supermag last year but I couldn't recall, so I shot it today with a Carlson 660. 263 in a 10" circle at a ranged 40 yards (The traced circle is 9.75" so I counted a few just outside the circle.)

I think they'll do alright if they can survive the recoil. :)

I had great results with this ammo and a RR .650 choke tube out of my SBE 2. 336/10" @ 40 yds.

That will smoke em! Back before TSS and sub guages, Hevi #7 and a .665 Jelly head was my "go to"

We was killing ducks with the 20ga Hevi7 duckloads and when I patterned them in my sons 870 20 compact I started using them for turkeys. I don’t think I ever shot the 3.5 7’s on a gobbler but that sho nuff is mean stuff

Based upon your previous post, they worked!!! The 3.5" #7 Hevi's are stout, but tame compared to the MagBlend 3.5" Hevi's.

Besides a rifle that I have with too big of a scope and a tall bipod that I'll lug around the mountains for elk and deer, I don't recall ever worrying about how much my gun weighed and I packed a Supermag from sometime in the 90s until four or five years ago. I still carry a 12 most days but a shorter barrel than the Supermag and I'll occasionally still carry the Supermag.

I have noted how much lighter the 20 ga is when I choose to carry it but never sit around thinking boy this 12 is heavy.
