Coyote dogs & shotguns

Post by Hoobilly »

Had some excellent coyote running today

Son shot his at 350 yards with his 22-250. After the shot the radio went crazy with another one running and headed to the open field and ditches. I cut it off. Waited for the dogs to catch up and down the center of the ditch she went a running and I shot over her the first time. 2nd shot I swung I to a leg sized tree and poof.

We cut down both sides hoping it wouldn’t run east and across the Highway. Made it about 290 yards and I looked across the ditch at Matthew Beebout and said hey, no coyote tracks and nothings come up on my side. He said none on his side either. I got on the radio and told the other boys to watch our back door and get ready. We back tracked. Nothing. I told my son when he got to us that he needed to get into the ditch He did and actually walked past her hiding in some blowdown and turned back around in the ditch and found her. He called for the dogs. When everyone got ready and the hound caught wind he started bawln. Gave me chills and I got excited. They got close to the yote and it came out of its hiding spot and almost run into my son. It went to come out my side and he hollered for me to be ready. She jumped out and I hoped for a side shot but she turned and ran straight away from me.

So I banged her with the FoxTrot Coyote Fever 1.5oz of 2’s and busted her hind end. Then the dogs caught up with her. Yeah buddy that was exciting. 3 dogs down for the day.

Son killed his with the 22-250 hand loads
Mathew Beebout got his with the shotgun
I used the Beretta 1301 Tactical with Indiancreek 710 and the Burris FF3

Season at 200 with a 4” drop of 300

He put the crosshair just over the back and popped it through the lungs. Looks like it had been shot by night time hunters 3-5 days ago in the back leg. Kinda gross 😂

If it was 450-500 I would say yessir

But he shoots a lot. 300 is easy for him even free hand. Dog wasn’t moving and not much of a breeze. He picks his shots
