"My Life As A Turkey"

Post by decoykrvr »

It was just posted on my PBS station that next Wednesday,11/24/2021, The documentary, "My Life As A Turkey" w/ Joe Hutto will be on Nature. The PBS program is based on the book, "Illumination In the Flatwoods" by Joe Hutto which is required reading for all who hunt wild turkeys. I first read the book when it came out in 1995, and reread it every few years and it changed the way I hunt and view turkey's and their complex behavior. If you haven't read the book, do yourself a favor and pick it up.

Watched it some years ago. An outstanding story of the life and insights of young turkeys. Was filmed in North Florida I believe.

I rented a DVD from the library 10 or 15 years ago and watched it. I enjoyed watching it.

I thoroughly enjoy the PBS program but, as with most films/programs based upon a book, a tremendous amount of material is not covered or not covered adequately. Partially, for that reason you need to read the book which is not only extremely descriptive about his experiences with the turkey flock, but also contains great insight about nature, life, hunting and our responsibilities as another element of the entire equation. A truly good read!!

I think I've already seen it but plan to watch again. I set it to record in case I forget. It's on at 20:00 with the program name of Nature.
