Sight Picture - Skinner Peep and Fiber Optic Post

I don’t know if anyone may find this helpful or interesting, but I took this photo this morning while not so patiently waiting on a turkey to gobble.

This is the view through a Skinner peep with a marbles fiber optic front site as pioneered by our own DocHoliday.

Some one may be looking for an alternative to a bead sight but not wanting a red dot. I say these are the perfect answer.

BG if like you can switch the ring to brass or stainless (both for aesthetics or quick sight acquisition).

What model skinner sight are you guys using? What height on the marbles fiber optic front sight is working? Looks like a sweet setup, I've been wanting to build a over and under with something like this.

Skinner peep for Henry Octagon Barrel and a Marbles flat base fiber optic front sight.

BG has the Henry model. The last couple I’ve done I used a flat based “860” sight for smaller footprint . The lowest flat based Marble with the lowest fiber optic insert. I have also used a HiViz sight if I needed a lower front sight fot poi.

For low light conditions, I toyed with the idea of having Tritium vials inserted into the peep portion of the Skinner at 9 and 3 o'clock and a Tritium vial instead of the fiber optic post. Got as far as speaking with the man who did the drilling and insertion for the manufacturers of various Tritium sights. Never got around to getting it done. I don't remember how I tracked the man down. Gil

Works very well, especially with aging eyes as you just put the front sight where you want it and let the rear sight “ghost”. The brain will center the front sight if you just let it. Best done both eyes open

Here's what i used on my YIldiz TK 12 pictured below: From MidwayUSA,, Ramp #72313 and Marble fiber optic dove tail post #603126 (green) and from Skinner direct, the Skinner sight for the Henry Rifle with octagonal barrel.   DocHolliday is a great resource for info on the set up.

Could that be adapted for a TK36? , i assume there would have to be some machining done to bbl over chamber to accept? Anyone done it.

Craig, I'm thinking about doing a TK36 with a peep. A simpler way to do one would be to drill and tap into the action and screw in the Skinner threaded peep sight stalk. Elevation is corrected by screwing the Skinner sight up or down as needed. Windage would be adjusted by drifting the front sight right or left. You'd give up ability to adjust for windage on the rear sight. Rough windage adjustment could also be done by barrel bending. There's a wealth of info on the net how this is done. It's not as drastic as it sounds. The 860 sight's base size may work on the action on the TK36 but machining would be needed to flatten the mounting space. I'd rather mount on the action rather than drill and tap over the chamber.
While a 12 ga., the TK12 is an easier platform for utilizing the Skinner system. As for weight, at 4.25 lbs., it's a pound heavier than the TK36, but there isn't a turkey gun lighter than my TK12 other than the TK36. No machining is necessary on the solid steel rib for mounting the front sight or rear Skinner sight. It is a pleasant gun to shoot if you like pain. I shoot 1 3/8 oz. with a reported fps of 1200 in a 28" barrel. Mine is 24" to the tip of the choke and I haven't chronographed it with the load. To ease the recoil, I reduced the recipe but the pattern wasn't consistent so I reverted to the original recipe.

Skinner makes a sight that is what you describe but has a locking ring on it. Just the post and locking ring no base and as you said no windage adjustment for rear sight. Would be great for your application
