ISO CHEAP Out of state hunt
Hey guys I know I’m probably a little behind the 8 ball but I am looking for a reasonably priced out of state hunt with recently purchasing a new house I didn’t plan anything and cancelled my merriam hunt but would like to hit a state or two! Any suggestion would be great thanks a ton!

West Virginia is cheap and we have always done well there.

Are you looking for a guided/outfitter hunt? Obviously the cheapest option is to research public land and find a few within driving distance, buy a tag, load up your truck, and start driving. Camp or sleep in your truck for a few days and spend the time learning the land and searching for birds.HoltBensley wrote: ↑January 12th, 2021, 6:51 pm Hey guys I know I’m probably a little behind the 8 ball but I am looking for a reasonably priced out of state hunt with recently purchasing a new house I didn’t plan anything and cancelled my merriam hunt but would like to hit a state or two! It’s not easy. With a few notable exceptions, unless you have a really good local contact, no one is going to tell you where the birds are. And you’ll find some places that look good from online maps but suck in person. You’ll strike out some - especially the first time you hunt a place. However, the birds are there, somewhere. Once you do it a couple years you’ll learn a few good places and probably make some contacts, so it gets better as time goes on. Then in future years, you can show up to hunt your known spots and check out a new place or two while you’re there, thus expanding your hunting options year after year.
I’ve been trying to do this the last few years. Me and a buddy now have a pretty good shot at getting on birds anytime we go to Mississippi and we’re planning to explore Alabama this spring. Overall cost equals license/tags + gas + beer and sandwiches.

Try the Ohio Power Lands over by McConnelsville. There are plenty of gobs. You go to the OPC office and pay a nominal fee and get free run of the place-- campgrounds, and other facilities. Bring your bass rod too. The little ponds are full of big bass.

Indiana has a good population of birds also. I would try west virginia 1st. My order for those States would be WV, Indiana then PA. That said we killed birds in PA and WV last season. We do all DIY hunts. You will enjoy michigan we are going back this year also. Taking 6 guys, so a small army, we will be covering a lot of ground.

Stay away from WV! There are no birds here.... I mean there.

Lol, sorry fired up. I feel the same way when people get directed to Ohio for whitetail
I love WV. We hunt everything there almost as much as we hunt here. We have private land and do a lot of public as well
