Another Taste Treat from My Kitchen to Yours

Crock Pot Ham, Cabbage, & Barley Soup

I did a taste test & it’s "Woo-wee, shut my mouth, slap your grandma!” GOOOOOOD!!!!
Another Taste Treat from My Kitchen to Yours

INGREDIENTS

1 Head of Cabbage
Bone-in Ham – Either cured or fresh
Veggies – This is an option, I had some carrots & celery that I threw in
Barley
Garlic – To taste
Seasonings – To taste

PROCESS

1. If you use a fresh ham, bake it until it is close to being completely cooked.

2. Remove the meat from the bone, saving the bone. Remove as much fat & skin as possible.
Cut the ham into chunks.

3. Put the bone into the pot.

4. Remove the outer leaves from a head of cabbage & cut off most of the core. Cut the head
into several chunks from top to bottom. I had 8 pieces. Place in crock pot.

5. Add the garlic & whatever veggies you have.

6. Season to taste. I used Chef Paul Prudhomme’s Meat Magic.

7. Fill the cooker with water & set to low.

8. Cook for 3 hours or until the cabbage is starting to get tender, then add the ham.

9. After 30 minutes, add the barley. I use Quick Barley, which takes about 10 minutes.
If you use regular barley, check the cooking time & adjust accordingly.

10. ENJOY.

Heat up some of the soup, put it into a large mouthed thermos with a cup for a top, & take a spoon along
It makes a great lunch in the deer woods

It looks great, George! I could do that all day!
Probably best not to have any open flames in the deer blind after a meal of that!!

Looks good, but I could probably keep a hot air balloon afloat after that.
