That’s a two-year old for sure. Nice job. I am headed to the Blacks Hills for the last week of the season. What were the numbers like?

Haven’t heard any reports on numbers. 2 weeks ago when I was here they gobbled good in the morning and a little in the afternoon. Yesterday not a gobble. Crap weather tho. This morning you could count the stars. Was a beautiful morning for good memories

That tender bird will go well with Waffle House hash browns! Way to go breaking in the shotgun! Congratulations.

Congrats!!!

Merriam's jakes don't have spurs to speak of. He's not a Jake. The bar on his wings looks mature also.

You aren't supposed to carry them out by the tail feathers. 😁

I'm more interested in hearing how all his tail feathers wound up detached from his arse.

In my (one bird) experience that's a mature Merriam's tom. Congratulations.
Thank you Lord for creating these wonderful birds and allowing us to chase after them.

That’s one of Gobbler Doug’s old tricks!!
When he shot a jake, he’d pull the tale feathers out to remove any evidence of a “jake” fan!!
He must have passed down his secret down when he sold the forum to Brice.

You probably know this, but the fan can be recreated using Bondo or something similar.

Congrats  Man I really miss sitting on a pine ridge and hearing that distinctive Merriam's gobble at first light ! Good thing about getting all those tail feathers out like that it makes cleaning the fat of them for a tail mount easier :blackeye: I have found that getting to them while still alive and grabbing that fan and pulling can make the job a lost easier
