New Spokesperson

Post by Hobbes_mobile »

I'm a new spokesperson for safety glasses. I was finishing up installing a couple interior doors last night and needed a couple shims from some half inch plywood. I grabbed the saw and had no more than touched it to the wood when I caught a piece of wood in my right eye. I could not get it flushed out last night. My wife hauled me to Urgent Care this morning.

The Urgent Care doc got a spec of wood out through torturous means and said I've got a heck of a scratch on my eye. The novacaine drops burned like hell to start with but were a relief afterwards. My eye still hurts like heck, but I've got a little relief anyway. I look like I've been punched in the eye.

I literally feel your pain. Many years ago I was bush-hogging a pasture, drove under a pine, & lifted a limb
onto the roof of the tractor. I sat down, the tractor rolled backwards, the limb dropped, & came down
across my ear leaving a pretty bad scratch. The ER doc put some sort of yellow dye in my eye & you could see
the scratch. They gave me some sort of salve for it & I had to wear an eye patch for several days. It ain't no
fun scratching your eye balls.

Also splashed some bleach in my eye but that's a whole nuther story.

Hope you heal up soon.

I know how it feels to get splinters. Hope I never get one in my eye.

Glad it’s nothing more serious!

Been there, didn't think it was anything major until my head was locked in a device and my eye was paralyzed so I couldn't blink or react to the procedure. It got real scary when I thought the Dr. in the ER could do it and I got the, "your being admitted so the Ophthalmologist can save your eye". Its amazing how fragile the eye really is. Glad to hear everything worked out !

Thanks for the well wishes guys. It's still sore but doesn't hurt near as bad as with the small spec of wood in it.

I used to work in a precision metal fabrication shop where safety glasses were mandatory, yet I still had shavings get in my eye a few times. It is terrifying to realize when you realize how something so little could potentially cost your sight.

The foreman used to walk up to anyone without safety glasses on in the shop, and say "Technically, you're blind!"

Glad to hear you're not injured bad.
