Those are the most impressive scratch boxes I’ve seen.
Do you sell them?

Yes, I do sell them. I have a few that are about finished; and when they are sold, I probably will not be making any more.

I have an affection for scratch boxes, but of all the scratch boxes I have owned the Davis was the largest and most awkward to carry. I like the sound, but I didn't like the carry. Maybe if I had built a holster to carry it I would have liked hunting with it more, but the smaller scratch boxes that are small enough you can carry them in a tobacco tin are so much more convenient.

While searching through some old boxes, I found the first scratch box I ever made. It was dated March 16, 1989, and it was made from eastern aromatic red cedar. For my first effort at making a scratch box, I don't think I did too bad of a job. I think I could call up a turkey with it...LOL!!! Regardless, I've been practicing my wood burning, so I decided to give my first scratch box an upgrade....

Wow

This is my favorite, I love how the limb looks like an antler. Whether that was on purpose or not is of no concern. It turned out phenomenal (as they all did)

Thanks to all for the compliments. I enjoy making them...scratch boxes are addictive and giving them a little upgrade is rewarding. I never know when I sit down and start working what I'm going to end up with...some I definitely like more than others. There have been several I hated to see leave, but they have all gone to good homes. After building a few with handles, I believe I like the handled scratch boxes best....

Cherry burl is one of my favorite woods to work...even with the holes, cracks and voids you sometimes have to fill. The character of cherry burl makes the effort worthwhile even if the finished product is just a scratchbox. This cherry burl was home grown and waiting for it to dry was difficult. But it's dry now.
