Who are some of your favorite custom pot call makers?
I've grown fond of pot calls and strikers over the years. I try to collect the ones recommended by other turkey hunters as I don't pay much attention to ads. My collection so far consists of pots from Darrin Dawkins, David Halloran (not really a custom call maker), Lon Trice, Steve Morgenstern, Buster Halford, Clay Townsend, Travis Wyatt, and Mark Cornelius. I'd be interested in hearing who you guys like and what surface the maker is known for.

Karl Lausman makes a fine pot call!! I have his persimmon popper, bitchy hen, and black magic glass calls. All are excellent calls and he is a first class gentleman. Last time I went to visit him he gifted my 11 year old son his first call, I was blown away. Karl has a soft spot for youth and passing on tradition. His passion for the sport is unmatched.

Kind like you I have enough pots and strikers to supply a small army..I picked up a all weather pot from Chris Brumfiel last year after season,I like the call a lot..And believe Chris is majorly over looked by many.
I’d also check out Nathan Taylor...Higher calling custom calls another one over looked.

Supreme Calls by Steve Reeves makes a really fine crystal surface pot. I have one called a Pure Death and the pot is made of corian that will make your ears bleed. It''ll get so loud and high pitched but, it can also play soft and get raspy as well. Another fine call maker is Lonnie Sneed. I have one of his glass pots (Outlaw) and a couple slates (Hot Hen and Raspy Hen or Raspy Boss Hen or something). Enticer has a nice alluminum pot this is pretty darn nice for an inexpensive call.

I can't believe I have yet to see Jimmy Schaffer's name mentioned. His crystal (Mad Hen 2) is at the top IMO.

Re: Who are some of your favorite custom pot call makers?
Bunch of good call makers mentioned. All solid. But I am in the camp with Lonnie Sneed. The calls are chock full of turkey and affordable. They work! And maybe for no other reason, Mr. Sneed has got to be close or past 80. He is one of the last WV oldtime turkey hunters. It is worth a call just to talk to him! Don't call in a big hurry. LOL! Get one with his custom lid also. I don't FB but I think he has a page there. Sneeds turkey calls or something like that.

I have to say my honest favorite is Lausmans calls.
Re: Who are some of your favorite custom pot call makers?
Cody calls , David Halloran , Darrin Dawkins , Matt McClain and Steve Reeves in no particular order are the best ( and most importantly consistent ) ive ever run . And that would be a pile !
There is at least 3 of these in my vest EVERY time I go to the woods .

I have a Pat Strawser slate that I really like. I have a Bud and Betty slate that I really like too, but I guess he's out of business. My crystal pot from our own Firedup has been in my vest since I got it and has called a few birds to the gun in it's rather young life.

Steve Morgenstern is my absolute favorite. Team his pot with a Neal Hermann snakewood striker, and you got a killer combo. I'm sure others are awesome too, but this is my personal favorite combo.

Just curious, which pot of his are you running with Neal's snakewood striker? I have been using a Teak green slate over slate. Thing is a smoker!Meleagris gallopavo wrote: ↑May 5th, 2021, 11:45 amI have both and have done just that.VALongbeard wrote: ↑May 2nd, 2021, 1:20 pm Steve Morgenstern is my absolute favorite.
