Finished Backstop

Post by HunterGKS »

It was a really nice afternoon, bright & sunny with a light breeze & a temp in the low to mid 50s.
I decided to try to finish the shooting backstop & maybe get part of the yard mowed.

I got started about 1 & put the 4-wheeler through its paces. I paid for itself yet again. I was able
to haul 2 beams at a time. I picked up 1 end of the beam & slide it onto the dump bed. I was
able to pull sideways to the backstop & roll the beams off & wrestle them into position. This
worked out pretty well & kept a lot of the heavy lifting to a minimum.

I had to dig the post holes 10" in diameter & 2’ deep. Then worked the post into position, lift 1
end, & let the other end drop into the hole. Those dang posts were heavy. I leveled them up, filled
the hole & tamped the dirt down so the posts were pretty solid. I got the 2nd hole about ¼ of the
way finished when my shoulders & back reminded me, not so gently or subtlety, why I didn’t belong
on the handles of a post hole digger. I swapped the diggers for the lawn mower & went at it for
about an hour before going back & finishing the backstop.

I have 5 cap stones from a barn wall that I will mark as 7, 20, 40, 50, & 100 yards & set them just
below ground level so I can mow over them with no issues. After that, all that’s left is the clean-up
of where the beams were piled.

I am starting to stiffen up & get sore. I have a feeling that my couch will become a port of call for
the Captain this evening!!

How do you recover TSS from this backstop. For my initial investment of $150.00 , no labor calculated, I recovered $60.00 dollars of TSS today. FYI my trap is only suitable to collect TSS, no lead allowed!!!,

I don't shoot TSS so it's not a concern.

You go back inside and get on that couch he mentioned. Then if anyone comes a knocking just give it your best Schultz impersonation.

Well done Jorge

The woods'll stop any misses but, if'n I or anyone that shoots here misses, the gun(s) will be taken away immediately if not sooner!!!!

Thx. Should last longer than I will.

You might want to reconsider putting any of this online. With a change in the White House, the EPA will classify this as an EPA Super Fund Site and shut it down. Stranger things have happened.

I finished up my shooting range this afternoon by setting the distance markers at 7, 20, 40, & 50 yards.
The 100 yard marker will take some figuring. The markers are set at ground level so I can mow right
over them. I set the 4 pieces of sod at the spot where the beams had set & killed the grass as well as
filling a few holes in the yard with dirt from the marker holes. It only took about An hour to get
everything done but there was no breeze, it was 66 with a bright sun but seemed a lot hotter than that.

I have 3 more projects on the board & will have to decide which comes 1st; repair a horseshoe pit cover,
build a new outside basement door, or mount my deer racks on a display board. I’m leaning towards the
racks as it will be the least work.
