Today, the work on the old barn area was completed & I couldn’t be happier.

I had to go out yesterday & pick up more stones that the weekends rain uncovered.
The landscaping crew uncovered even more. I’ll be picking up stones for years!
We also got part of the needed straw unloaded.

My nephew-in-law (is that what you call your nieces husband?) dropped off the
black trailer full of straw bales this morning shortly after the landscapers got
here around 08:00.

The 1st thing they did was run the earth pulverizer over the whole area to break
up the dirt & level it off.

The 2nd step was to run a drag over the whole area to smooth everything out.

The 3rd step was to broadcast the grass seed & starter fertilizer. I got a pic of
the spreader but was at lunch when they spread the seed.

The 4th step was to cover the area with straw. The straw blower is feed from a
chute on top the turns & feeds the straw into the chopper & then out the tube.
It’s pretty slick, a lot easier than strawing by hand, & uses the straw more
efficiently therefore using less.

The final step was to spread biodegradable netting over the top of the straw to
keep it from blowing away. It’s always windy here so it was a good idea to use
the net. They use little metal pegs to keep the netting in place. The pegs are
flush to the ground & will rust away.

Now on to the fun stuff. I hope to finish drawing the plans for my new barn this
weekend & start the process next week.

Thx. I started out at 20x30 & increased to 25x40. That should be more than enough.

Thx. I wish it was done. I worked my ass off last week! Hopefully I can get the new
building up before winter & get everything moved in.
