You ruled out the best shotgun sight ever made.

Agreed!
May I assume you're not here to inquire about the alcohol or the tobacco?

I have either truglo or fire sights on all my turkey set ups. I like the lower profile of the truglo better, but like the design of the fire sights better.

I tried fire sights rifle-style before going to a Burris Fastfire. If you took away the fastfire, I would probably just go back to a bead.

Just out of curiosity - why are you against a red dot? I had a lot of reservations about it at first so I understand. But man they are awesome.

front bead with a mid bead

for aiming like a rifle for a gun with a tight center core pattern put the front bead on top of mid bead, "8"
and it's still a fast sight picture for moving shots

Beads. Front and mid rib. No batteries, no fiddling with adjusting, no getting knocked off target.

I'm not, I love my red dots. But some of the public wildlife mgmt areas I hunt do not allow electronic/battery powered scopes. So I am looking for alternatives to a red dot and a plain bead.

The ban on red dots on certain WMA's in your state is it because the areas are primitive weapons only or no modern weapons with scopes or red dots? What state are the wma's in?

If I could not use a red dot, I think I would look at a scope. That said, I have never used one on a shotgun, but there are a lot of shotguns out there that the POA/POI do not match up
I may not be smart but I can lift heavy objects

I have no need for a 30-06, I have a shotgun

In this order is what I prefer, bead, rifle sight fiber optics, and scope. I hate a red dot, though I may put one on my son's gun to help him. :x

I love my aimpoint 9000sc,but i find it easier to follow the bird to shooting range through the woods with my fire sights without lifting my head off the stock, been busted more than once.

Aimpoint for me, also. Best red dot out there. Batteries last for years not days!

I've grown pretty fond of my Vortex Venom. But recently bought a Holosun HE507C-GR. I think I'm really going to like it simply because I prefer a green dot over a red.

Leupold here too! My advice has always been to anyone setting up a new gun. Buy the best optics that you can afford and then go by a gun with the money that you have left. Not the other way around!
It is sound advice!

Have one, two or three birds fly down in the dark, with a dark background and barely light enough to see florescent white heads but not light enough to illuminate fiber optic sights or see shotgun beads on top of a tight barrel and get back with us on how things went. It was this this sort of episode that led me to red dots....

I went with the Star Dot fiberoptic sights when they first came out and set up a lot of shotguns with them. Initally they were a bit of a pain to get POA/POI, but I made plastic shims of various thicknesses and got the installation down w/ a low profile, fast acquisition sight. As my eyes aged, I tried a Nikon VSD red dot and was sold immediately. I've got a Vortex Venom on the 20 gauge Winchester Longbeard SXP which I've used almost exclusively for 3 years now, and w/ TSS and patterning to 55 yards, I would really have trouble with anything but one of the new generation red dots. If anyone is interested, I still have several of the 7/16th Star Dot sights (red double rear, green front) which fit the Mossbergs and Winchester 1300's. PM me.

Only things light enough on a gun I'd need a sight for are red dots and rear peep/front fiber. Some people like the notch rear sight better for some reason I don't get.

If lightweight is not a goal then just open up the pattern and shoot 'em like a crow. Don't even need a bead for that.
