Youth Season Success
Most hunters would consider this youth season a disaster under the circumstances Karl and Aubrey faced. They worked hard Thursday and Friday scouting covering a lot of ground, where they heard 6 birds Thursday and 12 on Friday. It looked very promising. One Tom gobbled all day until right before dark. They camped and went to sleep early to get on them first thing. Well, about 4:23am there were 2 shots right in the middle of the roosting area, and sure enough when they headed out only one bird sounded off and it busted them. They came back to camp to regroup and went back out early afternoon. Just settling in, they started hearing pistol shooting too close for comfort. Upon further investigation a bordering neighbor and company decided it was a perfect day to go to the bottoms and target shoot. There were also a couple who drove down to a pond close by for some afternoon fishing. They then decided to go out this morning to a different spot close to our home. No birds. Then the only thing left was public land. When they got there it started pouring, but they toughed it out and in Aubrey's eyes it was a success. She found a shed and a rub, she carved her name in a tree, she got some calling instruction on her call from her grandpa and she picked flowers and watched raindrops glistening when the sun finally came out for a bit. The main thing is she never lost the smile on her face and found wonder in the woods, learning everything she could. She walked a lot of hills and hollers and never complained once. It was a great success!

It’s not always about the killing of a turkey. Sounds to me like Aubrey enjoyed the experience. When the time comes for her to whack a bird, or her next bird, it will be that much more special! You go, Girl! 🤟
May I assume you're not here to inquire about the alcohol or the tobacco?

Enjoying time out doors much less with grandpa is a success. Killing a bird is a bonus. Bet karl had a good time to.

Hopefully she does get to go again this year. She gets so excited when she gets a bird but she loves being in the woods with grandpa. She is just like him in that she likes to run and gun. No blind hunting for her. She is such a cool kid.
