Finally broke in my 1873’ Charles Daly 10 gauge SxS!
I bought the gun at a rummage sale back around the last 90’s for $45. It was rusted solid and missing a hammer. I cleaned it up and finally got hammers on it last year along with refinishing the wood and metal. My goal was always to make it a shooter and harvest a turkey with it. I just started reloading for this gun(and shotgun) about a month and a half ago. I used a fired RST hull and loaded up a 100 grains of Fg and 1 5/8 oz of BPI nickel plated #6 shot. I bought a quad pin roller and roll crimped the hull with a hand held drill. This is the first try a roll crimping with it. I used a federal hull for practice...
It patterns great in the left barrel. I had 40 pellets I. A gobbler target at 25 yards, 13 hits at 40 yards, and 5 hits at 50 yards. I was told from someone who shoots the same load that my velocity is around 900 FPS. I shot my first bird with it on my property the first day of 2nd season turkey hunting so I finally had a chance to give my load and gun a try on game. I dropped a dandy double bearded gobbler at 25 yards, give or take a few yards. When the smoke cleared I had a dead bird! I didn’t weigh it but can tell you it’s one of the heaviest birds I’ve shot over the years. It had inch and a half Spurs. The beards were 10.5” and 7 1/4”. I had this guy in my trail camera so I knew he was aground. I have another that has way over a 12” beard that drags on the ground that I am on the look out for as well.
I already mounted the fan and used an old photo frame to make a display...
And here is a picture of him on my game cam...

There are no markings on the barrels that tell what the chokes are. I used a harbor freight caliber to try and take measurements. It seems the left barrel is around .750” and the right is approx .760”. The right barrel doesn’t pattern any where near as good as the left. I would assume the right barrel was opened up for close shooting. If I remember the right barrel produced about 18 hits in my turkey head target at 25 yards vs my left barrel had 40 hits. Leaps and bounds better than the pellet count on my turkey targets VS Factory RST 1 1/4 oz #5’s and #6’s did. The best with RST was 17 hits with #5’s out of the left barrel at 25 yards. All the rest of the patterns were in single digits. It pushed me to start reloading for this gun, and first go with loading shotgun ammo, about 2 months ago.

,
I hunt with an old hammer 12ga that shoots a tighter center core pattern with #4's for turkey or squirrel, for rabbit it has a more even pattern with #6's
Very nice job on the refurbish
