Day 46 of the 2021 Squirrel Season

Post by HunterGKS »

I had planned on going out this morning but it was really nasty with a misty rain, black clouds,
a strong wind & pretty chilly. I had 6 squirrels & a turkey that needed to be pressure cooked
so I did that instead.

The weather had changed by noon so I hit the woods behind the house at 12:33, 56, windy,
scattered clouds & some sunlight. At 12:47, the sun started coming out a little & the wind
died for a few minutes but then started gusting pretty strongly.

At 13:08, a fox showed up to my left on top of a dead fall. I hurried & rushed the shot with
a clear miss. At 13:50, I needed to warm up a little so I walked back to the pond. NADA.
Got back to my spot & sat down at14:30. At 14:37, I was scanning the brush pile on my right.
I looked back in front of me & there was a fox hanging upside on a tree about 20’ directly in
front of me. I don’t know how it got there, if he was headed up & turned around or headed
down. Either way, it was just hanging there before it wasn’t. After the shot, it hung there
was several seconds causing me to think it would make a cool pic when it dropped. It was a
nice young male.

By 15:15, the wind had really picked up, the sun was gone, & it felt a lot colder (it was 57)
so I headed to the 4-wheeler. As I neared the 4-wheeler, I literally came within 1 stride of
stepping on another bushy. It ran & stopped giving me a perfect shot which I didn’t take.
It was between me & the 4-wheeler & I didn’t want to take a chance.

At least this 1 left a good blood trail & was pretty easy to find.

Nice day In the woods.
What was wrong with your 4 wheeler, George?
May I assume you're not here to inquire about the alcohol or the tobacco?

Why yes, yes 1t was,

I'm a little embarrassed to admit this but I probably couldn't have fixed it anyway.
I got it back the day after I took it in so it was an easy fix. I asked the tech if it
was a broken connection or a loose wire. He said it was something he had never
seen before. Not only was 1 battery cable loose, they were both loose. The battery
is a real PIA to get to so I probably would have screwed something else up. I took
him a filter & oil. He changed the oil & filter, gave it a tune-up, & reconnected the
cables & only charged me $50 which was well worth it to me.

The woods I hunted today was the same 1 where it died so I was a little apprehensive
but it is runnuing great.
