I got set up at 07:15 with overcast skies, a light breeze, & a temp of 68.
The skeeters were voracious so the 1st thing I did was fire up the T-cell.
At 07:25, a fox came in from my right & went a few feet up a tree about
20’ directly in front of me which I proceeded to miss. Not a good way to
start the day & season but I wasn’t surprised as I haven’t shot any gun in
10 months so I expected to be a little rusty. Later this morning, I checked
the tree & hit to the left missing a head shot by about ½”, not as bad as I
thought.
At 08:00, a deer blew behind me on the right going away. At 08:53, the sun
finally started peeking out here & there. At 10:15, I spotted another fox on
my left moving around in a brush pile. I lost sight of it after about 10 mins.
I was trying to decide what to do when I looked to my left & the fox was on
the side of a tree at about 50’ looking at me. I took careful aim, squeezed,
& the squirrel disappeared at 10:28. I was sure if I had hit it but, as is my
habit, went to check & found a male at the base of the tree. My aim is still
a little off as I took it in the shoulders instead of the head.
I put out some molasses & swapped the card in my trail cam. Since I set the
cam last Weds., a weed grew up right in front of it so I’m not sure what kind
of pics, if any, I got.
I headed in to lunch at 11:00, windy, cloudy, & 73, but forgot that the diner
where I usually eat closes on Weds. So I went to town to grab a sammich, soda,
& chips. I was back in the woods by 11:58, still cloudy, windy, & 75. My knees
& back were starting to stiffen up so I moved to my deer stand at 13:30. By
14:30, the excitement had overtaken me & off to the house I went with the
wind, skies, & temp the same.
I took a few pics of the woods. The large leaning tree is the 1 I cut last Weds
that rose & pivoted away from the trail.
The fallen tree is across the trail. Not sure if or when I’ll try to do anything
with it as I was able to get around it to the right. Those are the ruts I left
trying to get out last week.
I found this small burl lying on the ground. I’ve never seen 1 that small.
My deer blind is now known as the Chateau de Walnut. I didn’t notice the
corn cob until I started working on the pics. Dang squirrels just made
themselves at home!! LOL
Not sure when I’ll get out next as I have several odds & ends that need completed.

That small burl looks like your profile Jorge. I see an ear, eye, nose, mouth and even an Adam’s apple.
You shooting a 22?
