Day 29 of the 2020 Ohio Squirrel Season

Post by HunterGKS »

I decided to hunt a woods I hadn’t been to yet this year. It was 63 partly cloudy
with a slight breeze when I sat down at 12:43. At 12:50. I spotted a fox moving
down a sapling that was bent over by a dead fall. It was about ½ ways up the
ridge. It hit the ground & disappeared into the underbrush.

At 13:27, a fox showed up in front of me & started towards me going behind a
couple of trees never to be seen again. Another fox showed up to may far left
behind me. It moved along a partial dead fall to a tree & again, this 1
disappeared into the underbrush.

Then, at 14:17, 1 started moving towards me from behind on my far left. It must
have seen me move my head as it turned & ran back the way it had come. 1 came
down a tree about 5 yards from me, jumped to a broken down sapling, then to a
larger tree & headed up & out of sight, The wind had really picked up & it was
completely overcast. The temp was 61 but the wind made it pretty chilly when
I headed home.

On the drive home, I saw a large bird in the middle of the road. As I got closer,
I could see that it was feeding on a road kill so I thought it was a buzzard. I slowed
down & realized it was a mature Bald eagle. When I got close, it just hopped to the
side of the road & immediately returned after I past. I watched in the rear views as
a car was a ways behind me. Again, all the baldy did was move to the side. My BIL
found a dead immature Eagle on the road Friday. This could explain what happened.
It may have been eating a carcass & just didn’t move in time. I can’t believe that
someone would be careless enough to hit any bird in the road let alone a Bald Eagle.
