Day 28 of the 2020 Ohio Squirrel Season

Post by HunterGKS »

It was 61, sunny with a few clouds & a light breeze when I set-up in the woods behind my house at 08:20.
At 08:25, a coon wondered through on my left out of sight. I saw what I though was the same coon heading
west near the edge of the woods. At 08:31, a coon walked back past me along the same route as the 1st.
The 1 I saw near the woods edge had to be a 2nd one as there is no way it got back to where the other 1
came out without me seeing it & in that short of a time frame.

At 09:27, a fox moved through the woods on my left & disappeared in the underbrush. I keep an eye out &,
at 09:32, it showed up in front of me, a large male. At 09:50, I moved back to the pond. At 10:00, a fox
chattered for a few seconds but I couldn’t spot it. That is the 1st fox I have heard this season. At 10:07, 2
young coons wandered through on the far side of the pond heading south. At 10:13, 1 of them came back
& walked along the far edge of the pond looking for something to eat. There was only about 30 yards
between the coon & me & it had no idea I was there.

At 10:45, I headed back to my set-up. At 11:49, a fox hopped past on my right & stopped on top of a log in
front of me. I had to lean to the left to shoot past the sapling in the middle of the 1st pic & shot between 2
smaller saplings to tag a nice female. She was anchored to that log & is visible between the 2 saplings. The
2nd pic is how she “fell.” At 11:55, 1 scolded me on my right but took off for parts unknown.

The last pic is for size comparison. The male is on the left.

The wind had really picked up & the clouds were pretty dark. T-storms are predicted for this afternoon so I
decided to head in at 12:20 with the temp up to 74.
