It turned out to be a slow but peaceful afternoon in the woods behind the house.
It was 59, sunny with clear skies, & a light breeze at 12:35 when I sat down. At
13:00, a spotless fawn ran through the woods about 50 yards to my right. Then,
at 13:05, I spotted a white tail flashing near where I had parked the 4-wheeler.
I could see bits & pieces of the deer as it wandered around. It had to have been
near where I walked through but didn’t seem bothered by my scent, if I left any.
It finally broke into the open & it was a nice sized doe. Maybe Junior’s Moms.
At 13:45, I fox moved across in front of me from right-to-left. It was too far for
a shot even if it would have moved into an opening. It rooted around for awhile
& started moving back the way it came but edging towards me. I saw it go a few
feet up a tree & move to the far side. That was the last I saw of it.
I walked back to the pond at 14:30. At 15:02, I saw a fox on the opposite side of
the pond running down a log. It did stop but all I could see was its tail. It moved
off into the underbrush never to be seen again. I headed back at 15:25.
I decided I had had all the excitement I could handle for 1 day so I headed home at
16:45 with the temp at64, still sunny, clear, &breezy.
