In Search Of.....
Hey guys, I've been "eyeballing" this muzzleloader (50 CAL) for a few years now and never bought it. I absolutely don't need it, but just got the itch! Well, CVA has discontinued it and I've looked all over the web for it and no luck. I didn't know if any of you have any secret weapons out there to locate guns. I've called several local stores and no luck. There's kind of a wide price range and even though I want it, I'm not going to pay some crazy price.
Let me know if you have any ideas.........
Thanks,
Kevin

Hobbes, yep, that's the new model, it replaced the one I have in my first post. I may end up having to look closer at the new model.
Thanks Guys!

Re: In Search Of.....
CamoMan…I have the Accura MR like you are looking for and just bought one of the new Accura MR-X. Both in .50 cal. In my opinion, I think this new rifle outshoots the older model. The quick remove forend on the new model is great, and the gun actually feels lighter by a little bit than the older gun. Little weird not having a ramrod under the barrel, and I have no use for a threaded barrel on a muzzleloader, on this new model, but it put 4 rounds through the same hole at 50 yards. (50 is as far as I shoot because I am a woods hunter, not a field hunter). 1 1/2” high at 50 will put me dead on at 100. Another item, this new Accura came with two breech plugs - one for pellets and one for Blackhorn 209….

Gmed,
That's great info, I can't thank you enough. You definitely have a tac driver. What powder/bullet combo are you shooting?

That’s 100 grains by volume (70 grains by weight) of loose Blackhorn 209. Use either T/C shockwave or Hornady SST 250 grain tipped bullets (they are both made by Hornady. Thompson just puts a yellow tip in theirs and Hornady uses red. In the photo, there is actually two Hornady and two T/C in the group just for proof.) I trash the sabots that come with the bullets and use a Harvester Crush Rib sabot for the .45 cal bullets. They are black. Loading them - even after a shot is so much easier and there is no drop in accuracy.CamoMan4025 wrote: ↑November 3rd, 2021, 6:22 am Gmed,

I would probably swing that route instead of looking for the discontinued model.Hobbes_mobile wrote: ↑November 2nd, 2021, 12:57 pm This isn't the exact rifle, but looks close

I bet this new one is built heavier for the Blackhorn powder since they now have the rifle action muzzleloaders
Re: In Search Of.....
Camoman, I shoot the T/C shockwave in 200 grains. The cavitational wound channel is insane, 3-50 grain pyrodex pellets out of a T/C Omega. But then again Thompson Center is out of business !

Re: In Search Of.....
I stopped shooting the shockwaves around 12 years ago and started shooting the Barnes. Now with the smokeless muzzleloader I shoot a couple different bullets , but that’s a whole different ballgame

Well I got to hold, rub, feel, touch the new model. It was a LR-X which is the long range model, but I still got to feel it. Well damnit....I like it...........now I'm calling around checking prices. I don't need a new ML, but you all are putting too much peer pressure on me.........NO MEANS NO!

Oh I'm reminded of the puppy every day........She may have over consumed some spirits Friday evening and had a "foggy" memory yesterday. I said honey, you told me I could get a new ML...........she said, oh no I didn't! Ugh, I can't remember what I did 10 minutes ago, she remembers everything!

Re: In Search Of.....
Well I came to the conclusion that the discontinued model can't be found, but I located the Accura MR-X today from a gun shop about 20 miles away. I went ahead and got it and did a quick sight-in. I tried to post a pic, but apparently the file is too large.
Thanks for all the advice!

This is why I never go look at puppies or new guns.
Good luck with the new gun.

One thing you need to look into is the more consistent breech plug design that uses modules and large magnum rifle primers
