Re: Gobble call?
I use a regular box call with a rubber band if I want to gobble at them.
Re: Gobble call?
Mouth call or box call. If I were buying a call to gobble with it would probably be a tube call though.
Re: Gobble call?
Just use a box, makes a good jake gobble.

Got a Primos tube within five minutes making a decent sounding gobble
Re: Gobble call?
Tube or short box .
Tube call is a good but harder , but seems to work better on turkeys for me .
I'm like Cuz Strickland , I dont leave home without a tube call . My Favorites are a Ron Clough Tower of power and a Matt McClain full size tube call .

I've used the box call to make gobbles. Wish I could do a gobble on a diaphragm.

Used to use a Down n Dirty Haint. Since then i moved to a Bill Sauders short reed goose call that i re-tuned to blow similar to the Haint and it replicates very accurately easier than the Haint

Re: Gobble call?
Best tio consider safety first when trying a gobble. Think!
Yep box call makes a good gobble IMO and IME. Broke a few stubborn toms with a gobble, locate some too that way. No need for rubber bands on a box call either. I just hold the box mostly vertical by the handle and fairly firm, then run the paddle across the rails at the right rhythm holding it between my middle & index fingers. I do better with a box call that is relatively short across the rails, like 1 1/4" or less. Prefer my Robert Clifft short box (I removed all the rubber bands he put on it) but also can gobble on my longbox Burrville Bomber.
I try to sound more like a jake and if the gobble don't sound perfect thats OK, but a gobble on the right box call sounds pretty good to me. IME a jake gobble typically is a note or 2 shorter than a tom's although some jakes sound pretty darn good. If you really want to sound like an immature jake make the gobble sound "not quite right" and throw a jake yelp or 2 with a mouth call at the end of it. The jake yelp has to come right on the heels of the gobble. I can't do that quick enough with just the box call so I have the mouth diaphragm set to go in my mouth before I start the gobble.
