Slingers Out There?

Post by FalconIII »

So I always take the sling of my gun when I set up. My brother is a slinger though and says it doesn’t get in his way. Who’s right?

I leave mine on. My brother probably does the opposite too.

You are always right if that's how you want to do it.

Had to read the title a couple times. My initial thought was "thats a heck of a thing to search for on here.". :)

I leave my sling attached and it's never bothered me. I typically set the sling on my knee with the gun resting on it so that it acts as padding between the gun and my knee.

Oh yea, no sling for me! Once I'm set up, either in the turkey woods or my treestand, I take it off. It's just something else to get in the way, squeak or whatever....the less moving parts the better.

I never take mine off. Just another part of the firearm. Never came into play.

I have hard enough time keeping up with loose gear placed on the ground. I leave my sling on. Gil

I try to keep every thing close and ready to be picked up in a flash if I have to move or readjust my position. My sling stays on my gun turkey hunting, duck and goose hunting, deer and hog hunting, with the only exception, bird hunting in heavy cover where the gun is always in hand for a quick shot.

Having hunted with countless people I've never seen someone take their sling off.... Never even thought about it

Same here. I do not sling my ruffed grouse or pheasant shotguns.

My sling stays on when turkey hunting. It's never gotten in my way that I can remember.

No sling while hunting upland. I hate packing one without a sling while turkey hunting. I've left a a couple bow slings and several sets of homemade shooting sticks in the woods. If it's not attached, I'll find a way to lose it.

My dad always took the swivel off the forearm when he set up, laid the sling behind him. I always did this as well. For the last four seasons I’ve just been going without a sling altogether.

So it's pretty much decided.......George and I both unsling. Since we are moderators, we are going to BAN anyone in this thread that remains to be a slinger. We will also be doing spot checks this spring on each member and see if they are a slinger or not.................hard times comin' for some of you!!!!!!!!!!

Sling stays on although I will take out all the slack if I have time sitting up on a bird.

Can't believe it, I finally taught you something besides always arriving uphill, upstream and upwind of a scene. Turkey and deer guns get the slings removed when setup and on stand. While walking to and from the guns are slinged. Don't sling my upland guns, Waterfowl guns stay cased in a floatation case until approximately 10 minutes before legal light with no slings attached to the gun.
