Post by Skimerhorn »

Just read Sitka is releasing a turkey vest? Anybody heard about it? Keep your eyes open in Nashville for it!

That’ll be interesting. Sitka is quality gear.

I have some sitka that I use hunting big game and it's held up really well. I bought some of it new and some of it from a guy that apparently needs to buy a full new set of hunting clothing every year. Its pricey but good quality.

While maybe not critical, I don't care for their camo patterns for turkeys. I also don't need my turkey vest to be 'technical" and cost $400 and I'm assuming that'll be their price point.

Yeah probably be about the same price as an unused Bob Dixon vest with the tags still attached found on Ebay. I am curious though because I heard David Halloran helped design. Along with being a great call maker the little bit I've been around him, he seems like a pretty smart guy and hits the woods pretty hard. So, I'm sure they're gonna be laid out pretty well and be very functional.

It will probably be way overpriced. But with vests going for 150-200$ that are poorly designed, it might be worth it. Now I base my vest choices on the one I hate less!

Hopefully they release it at the show, checked their site and nothing about it. Do not see it much in the turkey woods but their subalpine pattern blends quite well. Maybe a turkey specific patter, that would be cool!

From what I can tell there, I'm not terribly impressed. However, I can't really tell what I'm looking at. I suppose it looks like a decent seat pad.

That one looks like it’s in the Sitka waterfowl marsh camo pattern. The back storage area looks like it’s vented with compression straps to hold your bird and the seat looks removable. I’d have to see it in person too to make a judgement on it. I have the minimalist now discontinued Sitka ascent vest that l can carry a box call, a couple pot calls and strikers, mouth diaphragm calls, some shells and a cell phone, not much to it but very light weight and cool to wear.

That striker in the front pocket is lost the first time in the woods. If it's not covered while "running and gunning" it's gone.

Looks like the timber pattern on that one, saw sub alpine on another. I was hoping for some turkey specific new pattern.

gaswamp probably typed that reply on an over priced Asian product. Sitka may be put together over seas but their quality has been fantastic for me.

Not really looking for a new vest but I would like to see a detailed breakdown on it, not even on Sitka's site yet and youtube has no coverage of the convention at all that I can find.

If you want to see the next great vest, check out the new vest from Grounded….that thing is awesome. I saw it at the show in Nashville and now I wish I would have bought one….

https://groundedbrand.com/products/impact-vest

No big name associated with it. Built by turkey hunters, for turkey hunters…..

The grounded vest has a nice layout, however it is 4.6lbs empty! I doubt mine weighs that much hunt ready!

The Grounded vest looks good but I'm not sure I'd like the single compartment on both sides. I know that I don't like one whole side dedicated to 4 pot calls.

I have never carried more than 2 pots, typically just one. I know that is just my preference and many carry more, I just do not see the need.

That Ol Tom vest looks terrible, maybe it is just the photo but it looks bulky/baggy and not fitted to me.

I often scrap a vest of any sort and roll with a mouth call and my gun!
