enjoy YOUR hunt

Post by Hoobilly »

Did you enjoy your last hunt?

I see so many who say that you need to hunt their way

Cause it’s the best way

I’ve hunted so many different ways in many places that I’ve traveled to that I know there’s not one specific way to kill a gobbler

Have I used a decoy before ? Yep
A blind? Yep
Run n gun? Yep
Just a mouth call? Yep
With lead? Yep
With Hevishot? Yep
With tss ? Obviously 🙄
From a truck??? Nope

But I have enjoyed all my kills
Some close, a couple kinda far.

But I look to it as each yer own

When I'm hunting on my own, I hunt the way I want to hunt. If I'm hunting with
anyone else on their property or on property that they know that I'm unfamiliar
with, I pretty much do what I'm told. Or we put our heads together & come up
with a game plan. This has caused many gobblers to ride home in the back of
THE Big Red Dodge Machine.

Also, if someone asks for advice, I will freely give it with the caveat that this
is the way I do it & what is best for me but it might not work for someone else.

As far as your list:

Have I used a decoy before ? Yep
A blind? Yep
Run n gun? Yep
Just a mouth call? Yep mostly fall.
With lead? Yep
With Hevishot? Yep
With tss ? Nope
From a truck??? No way in hell!!

Over 50 some years I’ve killed them just about anyway possible.

A blind? Yep
Run n gun? Yep
Just a mouth call? Yep
With lead? Yep
With Hevishot? Yep
With tss ? Yep
From a truck??? Nope, but I did come within about 10 yards of killing one from an old army tank. And I killed one while under a bathtub one time. Me, not him.

I've killed turkeys using a few different methods, all were legal. Some left me feeling more satisfied with the experience than others so I generally hunt according to what makes me feel good about the hunt and any possible kill.
I strongly encourage others to do the same. :)

Have I used a decoy before ? Yep, but I hate packing them around, so you won't see me with one unless I hunt with someone else who insists.

A blind? I've been in a buddy's blind once and hated the thing. They'd be nice in the rain though on the back 40, if I bowhunted turkeys, and with kids sometimes.

Run n gun? Probably too a fault but often required to find birds here.

Just a mouth call? I don't even know why I carry anything else. I have been trying to learn a new call that is awesome in the right hands.

With lead? Until about 4 years ago

With Hevishot? No, but I did buy some from the classifieds here last year as backup.

With tss ? Yes

From a truck??? Nope. I've had some mean ones piss me off enough that I probably should have. :)

From my belly after crawling too dang far in mud and poison ivy? Yes, some of the same birds that I should have just driven up on. :). It would be unlikely for me to try that anymore. I'm not sure that I could stand back up.

From behind a fan??? Hell, I say hell no. I just can't get into that. Besides, I always run out of extension cord.

I try not to think too deeply about turkeys until around March since we have so much winter left but I've screwed around and tripped the switch somehow early this year. :). It'll be deep thinking from here on out. :)

I'll probably go off the rails visiting Florida in February and not getting to hunt in all that green. If you see more than a normal amount of gibberish from me, you'll know I've lost my mind completely.
