General Season (Rifle)
General season opened on Saturday. I've been invited for the last 5 or 6 years to stay in a wall tent elk camp. I've not been able to go the last couple of years, but Boyd killed a cow here four years ago. I went in on Friday to help set up then came out on Monday. It's a spike only unit without drawing a special bull permit or a cow license. No elk were killed in camp over the weekend. I had a father and son with me Saturday morning then just the kid that evening and Sunday. The kid could have killed a cow or a spike if given the chance. I could only kill a spike. It started raining Sunday night and rained steadily all Monday morning so I did not hunt Monday. That was unexpected since it was snowing Sunday evening.
Before set up: After set up: There are 4 old army bunks, so 8 beds, a table for eating, a wood stove with oven box, a gas cooker, a cabinet full of essentials and a few other items. This was originally Bill's camp but Bill is too old now so a couple other guys bought it all years ago. Bill started coming in here in the 40s with his dad. A couple guys brought him up for a couple of hours to sit for a while, drink coffee, and tell stories. View from near camp Saturday morning The camp mascot, Spencer, took a liking to me and hopped in the truck while I charged my phone. They call him a sabertooth Jack Russell. He's got the longest canines I've ever seen on a little dog. The kid and I saw three big bulls Saturday evening come out at 400 yards then work their way to 175 yards. Too bad our general license is only good for a spike. We saw lots of wolf sign and little elk sign compared to what they usually see.

Re: General Season (Rifle)
Sunday morning we saw three elk on a very far ridge.
Parting shot of the tent in the rain.
Sunday evening was cold, windy, and spitting snow but no elk were seen.
To our surprise it was raining Monday morning instead of snowing. We stayed in the tent, drank coffee, and ate breakfast before I packed up and left, taking the kid home and going home myself.Parting shot of the tent in the rain.

I may go back in a couple days next week but haven't decided yet. I know I'm done driving my truck in. The road is brutal and has progressively gotten worse since I started. I used to drive the Tacoma in and it was bad then, but it's gotten worse and I'm not putting the Tundra through that again. I'll either catch a ride in or find an ATV.

Re: General Season (Rifle)
Wolves are decimating elk etc
They should have a liberal wolf season
Bill probably got some good stories of camp
Beautiful pictures as usual

I have a wolf tag. I think I can buy 5 of them. I like the idea of wolves in the wild, but I don't like when they are unchecked.

Ya'll using that solar panel to charge a 12 volt battery? Use one about the same size to keep a 12-volt charged for a hog trap.

Yes, they have two batteries. One for lights and the other for a CPAP machine that one of the guys needs.deerhunt1988 wrote: ↑October 28th, 2021, 11:28 am Ya'll using that solar panel to charge a 12 volt battery? Use one about the same size to keep a 12-volt charged for a hog trap.

Re: General Season (Rifle)
I've slipped something in my lower back this morning. I did it doing something simple. I had my 3 year old granddaughter in my arms and leaned out a little to set her in a chair at a local cafe. I felt it go and dang near collapsed into my chair.
I've already seen my chiropractor and I'm going back tomorrow. I was already considering a weekend at home catching up but not sure that I'll do much catching up on house chores if this doesn't improve. My right leg is tingling also. I had to leave work and really haven't improved any.

Ouch. The tingling down the leg probably rules out a muscle issue. I pray they get you squared away quickly...

and on for 25 years,is the pain around the top of hip and down front of leg?
If it is down the the back of the leg it is the sciatica, mine went down the front
that was a muscle that spasmed and contracts from the muscle from the spine to the pelvic
Best thing i ever did medically for 60 bucks for 15 minutes in my life
