New to me rig

Post by Turkinator »

I sold my extended cab Tacoma and found a 15 double cab with low miles. It’s a long bed also.

Looks really nice and clean! You'll be set for a long time! Great score, Turkinator!

Looks good. That ought to last a long time.
I got 6 payments left on my tundra. Be glad when it’s payed. Gonna build a house on my land.
Be the last tundra I own though. I’ve had 2. Treated me well but going back to GMC prolly.

Nice ride. I had a 2010 Tacoma, it was a darn good truck. Kinda miss it.

I like the slow, cautious approach that Toyota does with its trucks and SUV lines. Rumor is that newer engines in the Toyota line will be turboed to give better mpg, torque and horsepower. The gain of a few MPG versus PPG (parts per gallon) gives me pause beause of some makers experience with gimmicked gas engines. I keep vehicles for as long as I can. In addition to my 2016 4Runner, I have a 4x4 2003 Sequoia with 225,000 miles on it. Kept my 1997 Volvo wagon until 2018 when I retired for the last time. It was lovely to look at. I got T-boned in the drivers side and it was considered a total loss. I could get in out of the driver's side but the pillar and rear door were beyond repair. To keep water out of the space between door and frame, I jammed pipe insulation. It got me to and from work reliably for several years after the wreck and kept miles off of my trucks. It was the last year Volvo made rear wheel drive and had a great AC. It never died but when I stopped working I gave it to a young coworker as his old truck was in the repair shop. Gil

Really nice truck! Take care of it and it will take care of you! Had 3 Toy trucks, sold one to a buddy and still have 2. 2003 with 70K as my hunting rig and a sweet '94 that just sits around.

Took about a six hour trip today. Those 285s have a little more road noise but the ride was great! No shake, rattle, or roll!!!

Turkeybuster still owns and drives his '87. His original bed paid the saltwater price during his shrimping days, but he replaced the bed with one from a wrecked truck. At over 200,000 miles, he didn't need it, but he was given a totaled low mileage truck with the 22 series 4 cyclinder motor, fuel injection. His son, a master mechanic, stripped off the fuel injection and put his old 2 barrel carb on it and did the engine swap in under a day. He doesn't drive it much during the turkey season except for a few nasty spots we hunt. It has a winch on the front bumper which he rarely needs. For most places he uses his Chevy Colorado 2020, but I'd rather have the old '87. His 17 year old granddaughter, who took up turkey hunting last season with him, has been Jonesin' for the truck for several years. He chuckles and tells her "not yet." Gil

My 2005 Tacoma just turned 172,000. It started to hesitate on acceleration and we found the catalytic converter imploded. Acted like the exhaust was plugged. Going to be a pricey fix but it's only money and a everything else seems to be ok. I remember the good old days when after market operations would sell catalytic converter bypass kits. Those days are long gone. My mechanic said he'd go to jail if he even found one to install. LOL.
BTW - I see there are still some self install bypass kits around on E Bay. Too old to be crawling around under a truck trying to break loose bolts that have been there since 2005 and the truck would then probably be unsaleable.
