The camera really got a work out on the drive home from lunch today starting with an eagle.
I was headed east on Orr Road when I spotted what I thought was a buck in the bean field
next to a friend’s house. It did have some bone started on its head, I thought.
I turned north on Ross Road & was able to get some closer pics which did show the start of
a rack. Next thing I knew, a fawn came running up to the other deer. I wondered if the fawn
was confused or if the “buck” was actually a doe growing a rack. I didn’t get a clear view of
the undercarriage & couldn’t tell what it was except that it was a deer.
While I have seen hen turkeys with a beard, I have never seen a doe with a rack in the wild,
if that’s what it was.

If that isn't the start of a rack, it has a pretty strange growth on it's
head but it's definitely not ears.
You may have to enlarge the pics to see it.

That is utterly a doe, in the 4th pic down where they are running away you can see her milk bag and see the rack is separated from her ears.
The sunlight shows the fuzzy edges of velvet on the rack.
Good pics, nice catch on the antlered doe.
about 4-5 years ago during late spring turkey I jumped a antlered doe with a little fawn, just a spindly 3 or 4 pt.
no velvet, looked like taller shiny hard antlers not shed from year before

Thx. Not sure how I missed her bag. Probably didn't blow that pic up but it is pretty obvious. Thx.crow wrote: ↑July 14th, 2021, 6:27 am That is utterly a doe, in the 4th pic down where they are running away you can see her milk bag and see the rack is separated from her ears.

I'll be watching for her over the summer to see how the rack is progressing.

It is definitely a doe. I missed seeing it when I was cropping the pics but Crow spotted the bag in the last pic.
