Ovando Grizzly Killed

Post by Hobbes_mobile »

You guys probably saw that a grizzly pulled a woman out of a tent in Ovando, a tiny little town near the Blackfoot River just south of the Bob Marshall Wilderness.

Looks like they killed the bear.

Probably because it killed someone.
That works for me.

Zactly. Bears need to go especially on public land where people are. I understand bears exist but also exist in parks that have humans roaming around. Well if they want the bears then close down the public stuff.

Its the bears natural habitat. The people are invading their space. Maybe its the people that need to better protect themselves when they are in another apex predators environment.

Actually, it wasn't just being a bear. Grizzlies don't normally wander into town, raid a chicken coop, then pull a woman out of a tent and kill her. They were camped next to the post office. That's predatory towards humans. That's a one way ticket to a dirt nap.

The bears that attack while protecting cubs or protecting a kill (like a deer), that's just being a bear. Those are rarely killed unless by the person being attacked.

I can see them assuming that food around the tent was okay in town. I wouldn't have done it, but I can understand them making that assumption. What I don't get is how the heck do you run a grizzly out of camp at 3 AM then get right back in your tent and go to sleep. No way in heck I would stay there or go back to sleep, probably wouldn't sleep for the next week. They apparently had no clue how dumb that was or how dangerous a situation they were in.

I understand.
But most time bears don’t kill unless provoked and some people are ignorant. Public land that people camp on has bears. I’d be packin. Lol.

Good idea to watch the entire 3 minute scene from the movie The Revenant before tent camping in grizzly country. Certainly agree that getting back in a tent after running off a 3am grizzly was a dumb decision. Gives me the "willies" just thinking about it.

For lack of anything better to do at 5am I put Ovando in Bing Maps and did an aerial and street view. This wasn't public land per se. I probably would have tent camped there UNTIL the first grizzly visit. I hope the victim hadn't been watching the cute commercials currently airing with Yogi and Boo Boo. May she RIP.
