Camping over the 4th
Thank God for those that made this possible.
On Thursday we headed to Thompson Falls for one night before heading to Troy, MT.
Thompson Falls State Park and the Clark Fork River.

We drove to Troy on Friday for three nights. That night we drove over to Bonner's Ferry, Idaho for dinner for our 27th wedding anniversary. On Saturday morning we hiked to Lower Geiger Lake in the Cabinet Mountains.

Re: Camping over the 4th
That evening we went to a small lake with the kayaks and I made a few casts. I landed two bass. One wasn't more than 6", the other was a little chunk of a largemouth. I've not caught largemouth here in MT and thought this lake had small mouth instead.
We also saw and heard a couple common loons with two young ones but they wouldn't let us close enough for photos.

Re: Camping over the 4th
We went to Troy's Old Fashion 4th of July Celebration but man it was hot. We missed the parade but walked through the car show and the vendors. I avoided the food at the food vendors. Not because I didn't want it but because I've let myself go over the last year and the elk mountains have no mercy. The heat and lines made it easier.
We planned to kayak another lake that evening but Heather wasn't feeling too good so we sat around the camper and grilled burgers. We are on our way home today but have stopped in Polson to eat.

I fished Geiger Lake some but only had a few tiny trout follow the spinner some. I fished the warm water lake that evening and caught the bass. I planned to do the same that next evening but we didn't go.

I had planned on going to Montana yearsHobbes_mobile wrote: ↑July 5th, 2021, 5:43 pmI fished Geiger Lake some but only had a few tiny trout follow the spinner some. Southern Illinois, so you were close. The ocean would probably be my wife's paradise, but she's pretty happy here.ICDEDTURKES wrote: ↑July 5th, 2021, 5:53 pm Awesome just bleeping awesome!!! Boats? Bikinis? You cannot celebrate our independence without those with loud music playing
Fireworks, just isn't the fourth without folks all around you blasting into the wee hrs.

Well I’m here to tell ya. Ya livin the dream in my book.
I don’t care bout fishing or hiking(too dang far anyway) lol
But you living in Montana. That’s the shanizzle. Beautiful country. I’d love to see it one day.
Now I wouldn’t mind having a camper like you got and camping at diff sites and seeing it and just hanging out. That’s prolly what I would do. Just hang out.
Then turkey season. Man oh man. I’d never get tired of that. Killin merriams instead of easterns. Heck yea. Lol

There was plenty of that at Troy's 4th celebration. I just didn't take photos. We didn't hang out long it was so hot, upper 90s to a little over 100. Unusual weather for this time of the year in Montana. We skipped the fireworks since they it gets dark so late. It was almost 11 before they started.ICDEDTURKES wrote: ↑July 5th, 2021, 6:29 pm Ok a couple things missing where are all the people, can't be that great or there would be people everywhere. Your killing me Smalls! Shane the pictures are awesome as usual!
We traveled up to Atlanta for the birth of our grandson yesterday! Beau came in at 9 lbs, 8 ounces! We’ll stay a month in a rental house and hopefully do some outdoor stuff with our family.

In Ovando, not too far from here. Terrible way to die.
I drew a deer tag that lets me hunt an archery only area over there. I'll likely wait to hunt when those danged things are sleeping.

Hey Shane,
You familiar with the C.J. Box cop novels based in and around Montana? Finished one recently called “Bitterroots”. Reminds me of Longmeyer stories. Not bad reading.

I'm not familiar with them. I'll have to look them up. I listen to a lot of books while traveling.
