N. Calif gobbler hunters, I need some help
Hi everyone,
I am a researcher doing a study about preferences for hunting access, habitat quality, and site management on Northern California public lands. The results will be shared with USFWS and CDFW hunt managers at the conclusion of the research, and we hope that it will provide meaningful input from hunters as stakeholders and recreational users.
This is part of a larger study about the economic role of hunting in the habitat restoration economy. Earlier parts of our research involved in-person interviews at hunt sites--about 1100 hunters were interviewed onsite in 2019-20. Unfortunately, we did not get as many turkey hunters as we hoped for because COVID shut us down before we could get out for spring turkey in 2020.
We are now doing a follow-up by email to try to expand participation more broadly, and ask a wider variety of questions. I would very much appreciate gobbler hunters here giving their input on the survey, which takes about 15 minutes to complete. All personal information is held in complete confidentiality.
We offer a $20 incentive payment for hunters who complete the questionnaire. To claim it, you would need to provide your name and home address so I can mail you the payment. There is also a no-$20 version (same set of questions) for those who wish to remain completely anonymous and don't care about the 20 bucks.
If you are interested in taking the survey, the links below take you to the appropriate page, which is part of my academic website (and has more description). I'm also happy to answer questions about it here.
bit.ly/HunterResearch20 for people who intend to claim the $20 payment
bit.ly/HunterResearch for people who wish to keep their personal information private
Eligibility requirements:
• 18 years or older
• have hunted on public lands in Northern California* in the last 2 years
*N. Calif is roughly Fresno and north.
Thanks! Again, please ask your questions on this thread and I'll do my best to answer them.

I think I am getting cynical in my old age, but I think this post was either designed to find your turkey hunting spots and/or take control of your PC for a randsom....

You mean I’m not getting $200 for taking the survey ten times?

I live in California, I know to bad. When I just bought my new hunting license the surveys for birds from CDFW are being done at the time of the license purchase. This survey is being conducted by Virginia Matzek see link.

Just putting this back up to the top. This survey is legit. You can look it up on line. It’s being paid for through a grant and is being conducted by the Santa Clara University, Environmental Studies and Sciences Dept. Virginia Matzek at vmatzek@scu.edu, Anyway I just received my $20.00 in the mail today.

11 posts total. If I were a gobbler you would have to shoot me at about 75 yards with this presentation so far.

OLE RASPY and guess who……….if you like hunting just be glad you both live back east and not out hear in California. All lead for hunting is now band here, I can’t take my grandkids squirrel hunting with my 22cal because no one makes non-lead bullets for them. This year I took one nice Merriam here in California on public land. Most of the survey has to do with reclaiming lost habitat and opening more public land to hunters, it’s not about giving up your secret hunting spots. I was surprised also and have no idea why they sent me a twenty and not a check. Anyway I’ve got some Apex TSS 20ga 9s on the way for next year, that $20.00 will buy me 2 shells . Wish you guys good hunting, take care, Eric.
