FADDs
FADDs
It is so weird the FADDs that are now in turkey hunting. Filming and putting on youtube, trumpets, 410s and 20s (no grown man used to ever hunt with anything under a 12), traveling from state to state, callmakers, etc....
SMH! Turkey hunting is a FADD itself.

Is that a Mike Battey trumpet!Turkinator wrote: ↑May 14th, 2021, 12:11 pm Ain’t no fad Magee!!!!!!08843A4A-946D-459B-BF45-434F80812836.jpeg but I do wish YouTube would go away.
All that we see right now is social media driven
Albeit the 410 fad was given a huge push by the Stevens 301T cheap price

Re: FADDs
It looks similar to my Battey call but the brass is different. My model is the 1st trumpet version he made.
There is some printing on the brass but my old-assed eyes can't make it out even with a magnifying glass.

I agree it’s far from a fad. But how many are gonna buy a trumpet and then try to use it only to let it collect dust?Turkinator wrote: ↑May 14th, 2021, 9:11 pm KP Blackwood. It or the Buice go on almost every hunt. Trumpet yelpers are far from a fad

A fad to some, and maybe most. For others it’s reconnecting to their past or hanging on to their way. Except for the youturders,

Re: FADDs
Not to sound like an Arse but 12 dead gobs in 4 years with the 410 isn't a fad... Since 2005 well over 25 with the 20 ga . Single season slam in 2006 with the 20 ga . Sub guage really before hardly anyone was doing it . just because I had already proved to myself ( the only one that matters ) if I was in an area with turkeys I could kill them . Slams , and ALOT of dead turkeys for me and people hunting with me just made me want to make it a lil more challenging . Honestly the 20 ga IS'NT giving up anything ! **** mine will kill way to far , farther than alot of 12 ga's I see . TSS makes that possible .
Now the trumpets , I don't see most of the people that are buying them these days taking the time to get proficient enough to kill turkeys with them and they will sit up on a shelf and collect dust or be sold off . Makes me no difference , my intentions are to call and finish every gob I kill with a trumpet . worked 4 times this year in 2 states and I believe I am only mediocre on trumpets. ! My KP calls , Matt McClain, Buice and new found builder ( ive known about him for years but now I own 2 ) Black Falcon will continue to be the workhorses in my stable .... Oh yes I will still run pots and boxes and Mouth calls but trumpets and scratchboxes are my first picks these days .
Fad or not I'm sticking with the subguage and the trumpets because if I don't kill him today I can hunt him tomorrow !!

Re: FADDs
I believe I’ll run the Richard Hudson blackwood tomorrow. It’s forecasting rain in the morning, mouth calls and a trumpet. I agree that many will never dedicate the time to become proficient with a trumpet, and hopefully some bargains will be on the horizon.
