Anybody ever had a misfire?

Hobbes and decoy carver, were these fiocchi primers by any chance?

Yes, I'm using 2 3/4" 12 ga primed Fiocchi hulls, but I can't really say that was the problem.

Many reports over the years across the waterfowl boards of factory primed fiocchi hulls/primers misfiring, especially in lower temps, but not always.

Over the years I've read complaints of Cheddite primers causing fits in some guns. As has been noted in other threads, it is rare to hear of turkey loads failing because in comparison to other game birds and clays, fewer are shot. This past winter I had a paper hull reload fail during woodcock season. The cause of the blooper was using a paper hull too many times and the crimp wasn't robust enough to maintain ignition pressure. I was able to clear the gas seal from the SXS double's right barrel with a length of golden rod. Gil

Not sure if this would qualify as a misfire but, years ago, when I 1st started
turkey hunting, I used a Rem 1100. I had gotten into the bad habit of easing
the action closed to avoid making that loud, metallic sound.

One morning, I called in a pretty nice bird. When I pulled the trigger, all I
heard was a loud click. I checked the shell & the primer wasn't even dimpled.
I must not have pushed the action far enough forward. From that point in, I
let the action close on its own & never had the problem again.

Nothing that a little packing tape can't fix.

Several years ago, we were field hunting mallards and a friend had a misfire, no report after the firing pin struck the primer, he manually ejected the shell and it went off in the air as it was falling to the ground. It took us several minutes to realize what had happened and retrieved the hull which had flown out into the field from our ground blind. The primer strike was normal, and we assumed that it was a "bad/defective" primer. It was the only bad shell from the box.

Well, the turkey gods struck again yesterday! I had called in a long beard and about 8 jakes, put the red dot on him at @ 35 yards and "CLICK".
I was attempting to eject the 20 gauge TSS reload in a Fiocchi pre-primed hull and due to my attempted quiet slow action on the pump had the shell from the magazine and misfire jam up in the action. I turned the gun side ways and worked out the misfire shell and was still able to knock down the trotting gobbler at @ 45 yards. I've looked at the misfire shell and compared the primer crater/strike to the fired shell and can detect no visable difference in the two. I'll take the "misfire" to my next patterning session w/ my shot recvovery back stop and will see if it will fire. This is the second shell with primer problems out of the bag of Fiocchi pre-primed 20 gauge hulls. In hindsight, I should have vigorously ejected the misfire and tried to kill the gobbler before he had time to fully react.
