Really like the Yellowstone pix. Reminds me of when I was a kid backing the late 50s when I got to visit the park with my grandparents and great aunt and uncle. We had rear axle bearing problems and had to stay in Jackson Hole a couple days. Beautiful country.

I could think of worse places to be stuck for a couple days.Swampstalk wrote: ↑May 8th, 2021, 10:14 am Really like the Yellowstone pix. Nowadays they'd probably have to leave you or taken out a loan for emergency car repairs in Jackson Hole.

Yep, purty country. Back side of the motel we could watch riders pushing cattle up above the timberline. That trip was the year before the earthquake killed some campers, etc. Can't remember the exact year though. Need to get back up there with our family one of these days.

Actually looked up the quake. Happened August 17, 1959. 28 died in landslides it seems.

Google 1959 Yellowstone Earthquake. Epicenter in SW Montana. 7.2 scale. 21 still buried under a slide.

We drove past the lakes yesterday morning just didn't know the details of the earthquake that created it.

Re: Montana 2021 (updated 5/6)
I almost had Curtis talked into another turkey tag for another region, but he decided he'd just fish. I'll get out again for turkeys starting Thursday or Friday and season ends on Sunday. I'm not looking forward to the end because I've decided to not go to KS.
We went fishing this morning but it wasn't the pristine mountain stream fly fishing that a lot of folks think of. I call it redneck trout fishing but it was at least artificial bait.
Curtis caught a fat rainbow I caught a decent brown

Fished this evening with no luck. Watched a couple guys in a boat with fly roads drag several in but we couldn't cast to the are that they were fishing.

Re: Montana 2021 (updated 5/12)
Wednesday was the last day of fishing license for Curtis. He caught 4 and I caught 3. I hooked two other fish and lost them. Curtis had two small ones, and two nice fat ones (16" and 17"). My best was a 19" and two that were in the 16 to 17" range that I released. I would have released them all because trout aren't on the top of my list for table fare, but he wanted to try them. We ate them last night and they weren't bad but they also weren't crappie, perch, or walleye.
I told him that real fisherman know how to long arm a fish for a photo, so he gave me this.

Rainbows aren't bad but browns are hardly edible for me. Especially the bigger ones.
Brookies are the bomb! Rolled in seasoned flour and pan fried in butter.

Brookies are good. Big rainbows taste like salmon and I'm not a fan of salmon. We can't keep browns.

Re: Montana 2021 (updated 5/12)
We made and dash east to try to fill one of my two remaining tags and my buddy's/Pastor's other tag. We planned to hunt yesterday afternoon and most of today but everything held us up yesterday and we didn't arrive until late. We got lucky and spotted a tom and two hens going to roost so we were on them right at fly down this morning. He wanted to follow the hens but after a little back and forth and a position change, he split the difference between the hens and I and got to 40 yards. I almost always let whoever I hunt with shoot first but he insisted that I shoot first this time and hadn't even set up to shoot. I thanked him for letting me do the shooting especially after we couldn't drag a gobble from another bird.
