The ground is totally saturated, the leaves in the woods are packed down and decomposing, and the worms and grubs are up for the picking. The folks that complain about the rain have very short memories and don't remember the drought and fires of four years ago. I'm 6 weeks past my 2nd and last total knee and went to the woods this morning before daylight to greet the morning, listen, and thank the Great Spirit and maker of all life for my blessings. I was rewarded with a symphony of blue birds, jays, crows, cardinals, wrens, doves and turkeys. My barred owl vocalizations sound less like an owl every year, but the owls seem to respond better the raspier and more high pitched they get and I was blessed again this morning with several gobbling birds on the roost. I pushed the envelope and did my my crow hollerin/fight vocalizations and got gobblers to respond. I never saw the first turkey since I didn't want to push and they flew down and went to the swamp/woods. I am so blessed, what a first morning in the woods!!

It’s so hard

Beat thing is not to scout and drive around and see them fired up

What a great first read. This is my first post and actually my first forum. I live in the Mississippi Delta and not fortunate to have a very healthy population of birds.
Nice to see that pic and read about areas with good numbers.
Now that our snow is gone and we are thawed out.... it’s time to hear a few!!!!

On Saturday morning we hit the WMA to scout for birds for next weeks opener here in S. FL. Never saw the first gobbler, but man they were talking on a really beautiful morning. Had two groups of several toms at first light 200 yards out. A few others scattered out in the other direction further out. By sunup they all had clammed up.
