May be Pressing Its Luck!!!!
I looked out the front door window to check on the road conditions & the coon was back Right up against the storm boor.
The 1st pic is through the windows of the door & storm door. The 2nd pic is through the storm door when I started to open
it. The last 2 are of it running out to the road where it took a hard left & ran down the road. This is the 3rd time it has
been close to the house. It may run out of luck.

Looks like somebody took it to the Aspa and had it neutered under the feral cat program, it's left ear is tipped so you know not to take it there to be redone.

Probably smelling all that assparagas you’ve been cooking. I’m telling you nothing good can come from that stuff.

My BIL was in the hospital once and had to give a piss test. The nurse came in, took one whiff and said "you had the asparagus for dinner"...
No guff!! It does make your piss smell!!
But.. It's so worth it!!

Been thinking about bottling it and selling it commercially as Assparapee. But my bottle holder keeps quitting on me.

He looks like an old one. I'd give him a pass probably. I used to trap them but always liked them.

Re: May be Pressing Its Luck!!!!
It's been probably better than 30 years but back when I trapped coons, my grandfather would go on about how he really liked coon when he was young. So, I gutted a coon that I'd skinned and took it to him. My grandmother had a fit that he wanted her to cook it. She grew up in the depression eating whatever was available and refused to ever eat or cook like that again if she could help it. He cooked it in the oven himself because she wouldn't do it. He ate some of it but decided that it wasn't as good as he'd remember. I don't recall if he talked me into trying it or not.

Re: May be Pressing Its Luck!!!!
In Oconomowoc, Wi. they have an annual coon feed for a VFW post, I believe. Been doing it for like 50 years. I don't know how they make it but I've never been there for it and probably never will.

My uncle used to run coon with his dogs and he sold the little ones that he shot. He had to leave the feet on, as well. I asked him why and he said to prove that it wasn't a cat!

In some neighborhoods around here that's not necessary. They don't care if it's Rocky or Sylvestris. They call it chicken!'

Re: May be Pressing Its Luck!!!!
I've eaten it baked in an oven on a wire rack over a cookie tray to catch the drippings,
it was good, darker meat than a rabbit, but wasn't greasy and similar to a moist rabbit.
A friend renders down coon fat into an oil and uses it on his muzzleloader patches and on his boots/moccasins as a dressing.

My boss renders bear fat and has given me some for my boots. He claims it makes fantastic pie crust.
Since "they call it chicken" was mentioned . There was a local Chinese Restaurant here in Helena that was busted a couple years ago. The story was in the paper. It seems the owner's had approached a hunter and asked about buying bear parts. The hunter contacted FWP and they raided the place after some under cover stuff. I don't recall all the parts that they found but they had bear feet/paws in the freezer/cooler that they had purchased. They apparently weren't serving them there, bit were sending them back home. The restaurant closed down to afterwards. I had eaten there before but had no plans to go back afterwards.

I render bear fat and use it for multiple uses, it does make great pastry shortening and used to be in big demand when it was legal to sell it.
the top layer will separate in a bowl (like cream) and is a very fine thin oil, I skim that off and use for gun oil.
the rest we eat or is mixed 50/50 with deer tallow and used for footwear dressing and patch lube.
Ned Roberts of the .257 Roberts used to hunt bear with his uncle in the berry patches of New England for the purpose of selling bear oil and the meat.
Re: May be Pressing Its Luck!!!!
Tastes just like pork roast to me . we used to have it regular at our Deer Camp . boil 2 or 3 coon , pick out the bones , Bake for an hour or so to dry out then put them in a crock pot with some Mrs Griffin's BBQ sause and a chopped up vidalia onion . Boys it was a race to get back before it was all gone . Not everyone knew what it was but no one turned it down .
