I’ve seen a video of one swimming by itself. But I’ve never actually seen one swim. It’s that wild or domestic? I could see a domestic doing it if it’s around sucks all the time. Cool picture

He doesn’t know he’s a turkey. He thinks he’s a duck...
I think his swimming is called the turkey paddle.

I saw a wild one one time in a field with several Canadian geese. They walked walked around feeding together for a long time.

And I’ve seen them wading in knee deep water, but never swimming. Did he say if that’s a common occurrence with that Gobbler?

While sitting in a duck blind one January I watched a flock of turkeys wade into a patch of flooded milo, stand ass-deep in cold water, and feed for nearly an hour. But if you’d bet me $50 that a turkey could actually swim, I would have upped it to $100. Then I would have lost and paid you in rolled nickels.

He must have imprinted on the ducks shortly after hatching and now he’s confused, following them wherever.

This turkey is highlighted in Jim Spencer's new Bad Birds book, chapter 3

he has learned to go swimming every time he hears a turkey call, as it's illegal to pursue wildlife taking refuge in water.
