Air Rifles.
Air Rifles.
Considering an air rifle for critter control in the garden. Not looking to spend a bunch of money (maybe 200 bucks) and was just wondering if anyone uses a Benjamin. I see they come in .177 and .22 cal. Most of the varmint will be rabbits with occasional ground hogs.
Put you plans in the nail scarred hands.
Re: Air Rifles.
Yep, we got 2 of them in .177 and one in .22. I love the Benjamin's. It's what my father uses also and he is very happy with his as well

Re: Air Rifles.
I have a Gamo and love it. It’s shot everything from coons to golphers. It is .177 and scoped. Very accurate. One pump and your good to go. I think it’s 1200 FPS.
May I assume you're not here to inquire about the alcohol or the tobacco?

It’s a Hunter 890. It’s probably 10-12 years old. The scope came with it. Great little sniper!

Re: Air Rifles.
I have heard that the fastest ones are the least accurate. SO might not want a barn burner.

Re: Air Rifles.
My Benjamin's are 1145 scoped and very accurate
Re: Air Rifles.
With air rifles I have always been told you never know what you are going to get as far as accuracy. It's always a bit of a roll of the dice, so stick with a reputable brand and your chances of a good one are much higher. If you get a lemon a reputable companies customer service will help you out.

I have a gamo varmint. Good gun for money. Hardest part about spring air guns is the recoil on optics you have to get a scope that is made to withstand the awkward recoil a spring gun has.
Re: Air Rifles.
Not sure I understand what you mean by spring gun. What other options are there ?

Re: Air Rifles.
Some guns, like the Sheridans, you have to pump multiple times to get power and speed. On a spring gun, you only cock once. Usually, the barrel is pulled down once to cock it. Like opening a break action shotgun.

Re: Air Rifles.
My Gamo is 1000 FPS. 1200 if you shoot the platinum PBA pellets. I shoot lead.
Plenty accurate.

Re: Air Rifles.
Which pellet are you using with your Varmint? Bought a 177 Varmint for my son and I can't get it to group worth a flip with the pellets he already had.

Re: Air Rifles.
I had Gamo Whisper and using the good pellets I bought with it, couldn't get it so pattern worth anything and it sounded like a 22 mag. going off!!
Traded for a trail cam and the guy said his son and he were killin' the heck out of the squirrels
ever wonder where the white goes when the snow melts??
Re: Air Rifles.
Re: Air Rifles.
I settled on Crosman premier .177 pointed 7.4 gr. they are cheap but my gun likes them I also had accuracy issues with the rest but these are pretty good groups
Re: Air Rifles.
My son uses a Benjamin Prowler nitro piston .22 caliber with a Bushnell 1.75 x 4 x 32 power scope, ammo is Crossman Piranha 14.3 grains. Gun is dead on to 30 yds, it will pierce a 1/8" aluminum street sign at 75 yds with no problem. Woodchucks are no problem. Also have a Gamo bone collection "bull whisper" in .177 caliber, absolute joke no matter what weight pellets its loud and accuracy sucks.

Re: Air Rifles.
Did you try a different scope my factory one was all over the place. Was blaming ammo till I switched surprisingly I put a taco 3x9 and it works for now. But optics are usually the blame
