Re: Black Hills Bound
It stormed hard this afternoon complete with hail. I did a lot of driving. I saw two hens and heard zero gobbles. One hen after the storm was drenched. I'll look for one again tomorrow.

Re: Black Hills Bound
After the storm this afternoon the sun popped out & it was on! Had a 3 birds gobbling & 1 decided to investigate. Bad choice on his part as my wife smacked him with her little 28ga mossy. Absolutely beautiful scenery! I'll try to post pics when I get home. That bird strutted & gobbled a ton. Had the help of a hen I pissed off & she decided to have an argument with me! Anyway, if any of you ever have a chance to get to the Black Hills you should put it on your bucket list. Plenty of public ground to hunt!

Congrats. I've at least found birds this morning. Been sitting and waiting to hear more. I just heard one a long way off. Gotta go.cutt down wrote: ↑May 24th, 2020, 1:36 am After the storm this afternoon the sun popped out & it was on! Had a 3 birds gobbling & 1 decided to investigate. Re: Black Hills Bound
Congrats to your wife! I agree 100% that the BlackHills is a must do turkey hunt. Couldn’t believe how beautiful it is there. You can drive 1 hour each way and hunt all public for the most part.cutt down wrote: ↑May 24th, 2020, 1:36 am After the storm this afternoon the sun popped out & it was on! Re: Black Hills Bound
I’ve been in the Black Hills since Thursday. Didn’t hear a lot of gobbling, mostly because the weather has been bad. In between wind and rain events, I managed to call in and kill a nice two-year old yesterday at around 3:00 PM. It happened pretty fast, but that’s the way it often is with these Merriam’s.

Thanks guys! Since Wyoming extended the season, I am going to head over there and try my luck. Not ready to quit hunting and go home yet.

I've decided against Wyoming. I'd love to do it because this ends my season. However, I didn't come alone and it would be selfish of me to not just spend time with my wife here. If I was alone, it'd be a different story altogether.
I do have a buddy from CO that is here bowhunting that I may meet up with to do some calling.

Re: Black Hills Bound
I definitely took the time for my wife and daughter to get to do several things in 2 days in between me hunting. Thankfully I killed one early thursday morning and we were able to see mount rushmore and crazy horse. plus get good coffee in Spearfish, Deadwood and in Sturgis.Hobbes_mobile wrote: ↑May 24th, 2020, 8:46 pm I've decided against Wyoming. We've been to Rushmore 3 times so probably won't do that, but what's the name of the coffee shops in case we make it up there?

Re: Black Hills Bound
Common Grounds is a chain coffee spot in spearfish. I’ll ask m wife about the one in Deadwood we ate at. They had excellent coffee. Sturgis has several also and the one was real good.Hobbes_mobile wrote: ↑May 24th, 2020, 10:42 pmhoobilly wrote: ↑May 24th, 2020, 10:16 pmI definitely took the time for my wife and daughter to get to do several things in 2 days in between me hunting. I've not done anything special, just one lucky trip to SD. Everything else has been staying in Montana. I hope you get to have a great season in 21.timbrhuntr wrote: ↑May 25th, 2020, 12:02 pm Congrats guys ! Jeepers Hobbes you sure got this Wuhan virus turkey hunting season figured out ! I'm drinking an Americano from the Sturgis Coffee Co now. We weren't impressed with Deadwood. We probably got there too early, so most wasn't open. We thought we'd eat breakfast there, but it looked like all gambling. They charged me $10 for a half hour in the parking garage. I guess it was a minimum fee.hoobilly wrote: ↑May 24th, 2020, 11:25 pmCommon Grounds is a chain coffee spot in spearfish. I’ll ask m wife about the one in Deadwood we ate at. Wasn’t bad at all. We also ate at Perkins in Sturgis one morning after I hunted a while.

Re: Black Hills Bound
We also had supper and lattes at the Eagle Bar & Steakhouse in Deadwood. Was pretty dead due to no one really out and about because of Rona.
