Red Phase Gobbler

Post by vaturkey »

This gobbler eluded me 3 days in a row the first week of the Virginia season . I missed him with a crossbow during the fall deer season. On the 4th day which was a Saturday i called in his harem of 13 hens & he was bringing up the rear. He weighed 22 lbs 7 oz . First Red Phase Gobbler I've ever seen ! ! Thanks for lookin !

I love oddball colored turkeys. Hopefully one day I bust one and get it mounted.

I know you spoke about it with me several times. Glad you got a crack at him after eluding you for 2 weeks

That's fantastic! And like many others, I've never seen one much less heard of it.

What causes the unique coloring?

Where in VA are you? I'm up in the Reston area.

What causes the unique coloring
When they narrowly miss getting killed by a crossbow, they turn red!
That’s my theory and I’m stickin to it!!
