Great weekend.

Post by savduck »

GA woods were quiet the first two weekends then I was in FL last weekend. I decided to get down in the flood waters in the swamps on public land this weekend. Gates are closed so have to walk the whole property. Traveling light. Just trumpets and mouth calls, no decoys, and two bottles of water. They didnt set the world on fire but did enough to get in tight and work em. Text book hunt right off the roost Saturday. Then turned around Sunday and found another. Flew across the creek to come get some. Both birds were shot close under 20 yards with an 870 my Dad gave me, he passed last day of turkey season last year. They also both did a ton of spitting and drumming. Good weekend of old school style hunting with Dads old 870, they way he taught me to hunt in the woods we ran together.

Got on a third bird but let him walk. Didnt want my season over yet.

Awesome hunts! Congratulations on some nice gobblers.

Made a day hunt yesterday out in Big Cypress National Preserve. Not a peep was heard, nor a bird in sight the whole day. But man it was so invigorating just being in the woods, hearing birdies wake up, and the sun getting up over some low clouds. bumped a couple does, saw plenty of new buck rubs, trails, and a big old gator drag cutting across a prairie heading for a cypress dome. Was like early release from house arrest!
